Well, I booked this "hotel" checking the very good reviews on TA and booking but in the end I was more disappointed than delighted. I booked it through booking and it was not showing the hostel option so we booked a standard bedroom for 2 for around 20 USD a night. It's the most we paid for a room in entire SL trip so I expected the room and services to be much than other places we stayed at.

But the room was a disappointment. First of all, it's part of their house and it is not a hotel. The room we stayed in was the first room on the left as soon as you enter the house. The hall is right in front of the room and sometimes the noise of TV in the hall can be annoying.

The WiFi was not working. For 20 USD a night room, you at expect the WiFi to work.

There was no balcony in the room. Obviously there was no "view" as we were on the ground floor. There were windows which did not open and even if we had opened them we would have to see the parking lot of the house. The room was very suffocating.

The room was small to accommodate 2 people. After putting in a Queen bed, there wasn't enough space to even properly walk in the room. There was a small table at the corner but as soon as you bring it in the front you cannot move around the room.

To make things worse the toilet door opened inwards into already very small room. So if the toilet door is open, you simply cannot go from one side of the room to another unless you climb the bed and cross.

The only positive thing for us was that the owner was courteous enough to let us keep our bags in his hall till the evening as we had an evening flight and we checked out early in the morning.

I am not sure if the hostel experience here would have been better. But the experience of staying in the room here for 20 USD was not at all worth the money.

Very average

Stayed here for two nights in December 2018. One of the best places I stayed. The host Azhar and his wife are very courteous, hospitable and helpful. The moment we stepped in, we felt like as we are in our own home. I booked the place for 16 of us. Spacious very clean rooms with A/C. Good location with easy access to supermarkets and restaurants. Beautiful view from the roof top at night. Good value.

Best Host

We chose this guest house as it was walking distance to SCC cricket ground where we were going to watch the cricket. The rooms are basic and the wifi was a little patchy. But the owner was very helpful and welcoming (booking taxis, recommending restaurants, etc), it has a fantastic roof terrace, and while we didn't spend much time there, it seemed like a nice enough area. Good value.

Basic but good value, very helpful owner

The place is in one of the most valued location in the country. The rates are economical considering the usual value of the locality. Owner, Mr.Azhar, is quite nice and kind who helps in getting all the facilities. The terrace at night is very serene and peaceful. Other guests are friendly too. Met some nice and helpful people there.

Highly recommended place. Spacious rooms with a very homely atmosphere. Azhar, the owner is very friendly and helpful. Located at a prime spot in Colombo with good restaurants and supermarkets nearby. Overall, the best a traveller can expect.

Awesome place at a very competitive price

The Deane Residence is a really nice stay near the central of Colombo. Azhar, the owner, is a very nice and kind person who can nearly help you with any questions. Also there are kind guests. 
Warm and cold water ist running, wifi is also working perfectly. 
I would highly recommend the hostel.
