Great place to stay

Simply amazing! The STAFF- esp JACK went extra mile to help us in all our needs, he is very dedicated in giving the customers an excellent service in any way possible. ENVIE and MARIA were also very hospitable, helpful and nice.. This is our first time to be treated like a family among those places that we have been to. ACCOMODATION- sea view, peaceful, laid back, comfortable room. FOOD- i super love the buffet dinner, different varieties which we always look forward every day. Lunch is good, Breakfast is a bit simple but still filling. Over all experience is awesome!! 

Superb!!

This is our second stay at Crystal Sands for myself and two friends and we will be back again next year.  Not only is the island of Maafushi a beautiful place, in terms of people, culture, things to do...the staff at the hotel are amazing. Cannot fault their kindness and helpfulness during our stay. A big plus is the new chef....we went to a local resort for a day's visit and the food there was not a patch on the cuisine our chef provided. His currys were amazing and at a special request by us, made a vegetable curry the evening before our departure. Every evening the buffet was different and very tasty. Lots of choice as well. 
The staff are very helpful in arranging trips off the island eg. Snorkelling, diving, resort trips. Nothing is too much trouble. Would highly recommend Crystal Sands....just make sure there is room for us next year!

It just gets better!!!!

Lovely location, off the speedboat and less than a minute to the hotel lobby. They greet you warmly along with options of trips you can take during your stay at the hotel and help  you maximise your stay on the island the best way they know how. Food was fantastic, room was comfortable, staff was friendly and accommodating.

Great Establishment & Hospitality

This is a wonderful property situated barely 2 minutes away from where the boat docks, and they had their representative waiting at the pier to welcome us and escort us back to the hotel. Lovely bright and airy rooms with a good view of the sea. Do visit the terrace at sunrise and sunset to take in the panoramic views and soothing breeze. 

Jack had suggested a good activity package to us which included island hopping, snorkeling, sunset cruise with fishing [and the hotel will BBQ your catch for you and it's complimentary :) ], a candle light dinner, a fun package with jet ski, fun tubing, sea kayaking, a relaxing massage at their Oak Spa, and return speedboat transfer to the airport. It was value for money and we absolutely enjoyed their warmth and hospitality - also of the experienced diving instructors who took us on the excursions and gave us photos and videos shot underwater on their Go Pro.

Food is excellent here, and weather permitting, you can have candle light dinner every day at their Symphony Lagoon outdoor restaurant, which serves excellent buffet mainly comprising of fresh sea food. Buffet breakfast is a mix of continental and Maldivian local delicacies. 

When you go island hopping for excursion, they include packed lunch which is served on the sandbank, and its simple and filling.

We experienced a tropical storm on 2 of the days we stayed there and the environment was magical. A heavy downpour for a few minutes, followed by bright sunshine and this is how the cycle continued. 

Bikini beach is barely a 3 minute walk from Crystal Sands, and you can safely enjoy swimming in the warm and green tropical waters with family. 

Maafushi is a very small local island, and the area around Bikini beach has some of the best restaurants and water sports activities, with a very pulsating atmosphere. Almost wherever you go, you are bound to hear the latest Latino song tracks and it's so lively and upbeat! For someone like me who likes to savour local life, it was amazing to walk around the island, watch little kids go to school, fishermen return with bucket loads of tuna as their fresh catch, hear the Azan in the 2 mosques, go for a nice jog on the long stretch of the beach along the east side of the island and tuck into Hedika (the local Maldivian tea time snack) at Rocket restaurant in the lane right next to the hotel.

Jack, Mohan and all the other staff at Crystal Sands....Thank you very much for making our stay at Crystal Sands indeed very memorable. We enjoyed every bit of our 4 days there, and hope to visit the Maldives soon again. 

As a courtesy to every guest who stays at Crystal Sands, Jack personally escorted us back to the speedboat as we left for the airport island. 

I would recommend this place to anyone who visits Maafushi and assure you that you won't be disappointed.

Wonderful stay on a local island

Booked the hotel for 6 nights, arrived at 10pm and Jack was already waiting to welcome us at the pier. Welcoming drinks of lemongrass and ginger was good after a day of traveling (but Husband doesn’t like ginger so they gave him fruit punch instead). They didn’t have the room we booked available, so they put us up in nearby Kaani Village for the night. We only saw our room the next day after a full day excursion trip. The room was bright, clean, spacious, and comfortable with a balcony with a view of the city. The comforter looked thin but was actually quite warm and cozy. The balcony had a table, chairs and a drying rack, which is definitely needed after all the snorkeling. The bathroom was clean and spacious, hot water was available but the shower’s water pressure fluctuates and the sink easily clogs up. Towels had stains so we asked for new ones. Balcony door a bit hard to slide and lock. The safe was not operational and very light I could lift it.

For the excursion package, we took the ones offered in-house:
1.	Full day trip to see nurse sharks, dolphins and turtle reef. Lunch was provided picnic style on a local island. It was raining in the distance so the water during snorkeling at the turtle reef was a little choppy and the shallow reef gave us some souvenirs in the form of small cuts and bruises. 
2.	Watersports which included 30 mins on a canoe (kayak), 10 mins on a fun tube (please be ready to lose your voice from screaming – it really was FUN), and 10 mins on a jet ski (guided).
3.	Candlelit dinner by the beach – the package said private, but it really wasn’t. Next door Sun Tan Beach hotel provided dinner on the same area of the beach. The food was great and the ambience was good. Tip : take the 6.30pm time slot as the sun is starting to set. We took the 8.30pm slot – still good but dark.
4.	Half day trip to three snorkeling points to see stingrays, turtles, octopuses, moray eels, sea urchins and a lot of fishes. The water was calmer as there was no rain. It may be tiresome for some as it was 3 points back to back. Lunch on a sandbank.
5.	Night fishing – cruising at sunset on a fishing boat and fishing the traditional way (not using fishing rods)

Food-wise, the breakfast is a standard spread. We only included breakfast in our package and not half-board or all-inclusive. We had lunch three times at the hotel, food tastes great but took some time to prepare. The buffet dinner offered a good range of good food. Definitely loved the Sizzling Chocolate Affair. The cooking style of Maldives is quite simple and is easy on the tummy. 

As for the staff – wow! Everyone gave us a warm reception, was really friendly and really easy to talk to. Ronak would always come up to us when he sees us, jokes with us, shares his stories and asks what we did during the day. The excursions crew and the people at Jammin Watersports took really good care of us, we had the time of our lives! Special thanks for getting back our GoPro that Husband accidentally dropped at Biyadhoo reef! The genuine friendships we struck up during this trip was incomparable and we have not found it anywhere else on our other travels.
 
Outside of the package, at additional cost, we jet skied to nearby local island, Guraidhoo, and the long stretch of sandbank at Cocoa Island. The hotel also arranged for a day trip to a 5-star resort (Adaaran Prestige on Vadoo) but I didn't find it worth the USD105/pax price tag as we were not even allowed near the water villas (for that highly sought after water villa pictures), we do not drink alcohol and the day trip is oversold. The beach was overcrowded with other day trip tourists that people fought over sun beds. If you are not looking to drink alcohol, skip this.

Whilst planning where to stay in Maldives months ago, I was undecided between staying at a public or private island. I’m glad I chose to stay at a public island as the people are friendlier, you get to experience the Maldivian culture (a bit less on Maafushi as its now touristy but Guraidhoo’s more localized), it’s easier and cheaper to get transport to Male or Airport, easier and cheaper to plan excursions, options for dining aplenty.

Staying at Crystal Sands was a good choice and would definitely stay there again. It was hard saying goodbye to everybody on our last day as we left with heavy hearts.

Thank you to everybody there for making our stay and our activities very enjoyable and definitely made it a trip of a lifetime.

They made Maldives the trip of a lifetime

With the Crystal Sands hotel what you see is what you get. The staff are amazing, rooms are clean,everyone is so friendly and willing to help with any queries or requests. Upon arrival they'll do a short meet & greet and explain local laws, services and any excursions they offer. I went out on a number of excursions during my stay on Maafushi and wound say the Crystal sands excursion team were by far the best! 
Thank you to Jack and all the Crystal sands team ! I'll definitely be coming back hopefully in the not to distant future :)

Highly recommended

We went to Crystal Sands to have lunch a few times during our stay in Maafushi.
The food was very good and the waiters very kind, they speak good English. We liked most the cuttlefish, tuna steak and sizzling chocolate as desert.
We definitely recommend this restaurant!

Great lunch!

Nice hotel near everything.  Island is small so everything near.  Excursion package is a most if you stay at least 4 nights... wifi in common area is good but slow in room.  Breakfast good... dinner included was basis.  Not so many choice and often ran out quickly.  Romantic dinner on beach was awsome...

4 nights in crystal sands

Very fine hotel , rooms though small in size ; but the food is amazing and staff is very courteous ; specially jack was very helpful , just cross the road to arrive at the beach , hotel is a few minutes walk from the speed boat stand . though not much to do at mafushi ; one can do the  evening fishing trip ( which is fun ) and the morning snorkeling trip.
