Otaru Ekimae Guest House Ito - Hostel

A wonderful stay.  Advise bringing ear plugs if staying in the shared bedroom.  Had a chainsaw snorer the first night.  Bed was one of the most comfortable beds ever.  Wonderful feather comforter.

The hostel was a little difficult to get to because of the snowy roads and it isn't immediately clear when you get there because the entrance looks a little empty but you just go upstairs and I found a great hostel with plenty of charm, excellent facilities and very comfortable, spacious room with a great bed. I stayed in the female dorm alone and it's a great size since there's only three beds there. The place was definitely better than it seems in the photos, very clean and tidy. Would recommend!!

At Guesthouse Ito, you feel like you're coming home to someone's house. The dorm beds are actual beds with comfortable fluffy bedding, and the one I got was in its private corner with a foldable partition and a full stack of shelves to put my things. It felt completely like a private room.

The shared bathroom and shower is located on each floor, and it is spotlessly cleaned - there is a heater so make sure it's turned on, otherwise the shower room will be freezing.

The location is very close to Otaru station and easy to find. There is an elevator in the building. The kitchen is big, common area is comfortable, and the service staff are incredibly friendly. I cannot recommend this place enough!

English is fine enough for check-in and out. Easy access from JR station and easy acess to Canal. Coffee/tea is for free all day long. Bed is using normal bed frame (not noisy double decker) and so neat. Living room is ordinary japanese style so the guest may feel home life of Japan. Most of all, A Wonderful and Very Kind young owner lady is running it with the help from grand mother. Definitely will stay again at the next time.

Had a lovely stay there for two night, host are friendly and lovely. Room are clean and comfy.

Receptionists are friendly. Basic facilities just like pictures. Clean, thought bathroom and toilets are old.

Got a shock when I arrived as level 1 is pitch dark, then realised check in is on level 3. Couldn't get the lift door open then realised you need to press and hold the button till the door is fully open. Saw instructions on how to use the lift once inside. I thought it makes more sense for the instructions to be outside the lift. Overall a pleasant stay as the shower & toilet is just outside the room. I stayed in the Japanese room and the bedding given was abundant. Just note that you can't lock the door for the Japanese room when you go out but there's a locker at the reception area for you to use. Able to store luggage after check out too.

Room is clean and the location is close to attration (in walking distance), the staff is friendly and living room is comfy.

Best surprise of the trip

Awesome.

This was my second visit to the Otaru Ekimae Guesthouse Ito, and the good memories from the first visit was confirmed. This is a good place to stay.The value-for-money-factor of this affordable accomodation is on top. The bedrooms are simple, not much furniture there, but the beds are good. The room is quite spacious, it has enough space to keep your suitcase open if you like. The surroundings, and good sleep quality is something I appreciate. The hostess Ao san has great knowledge of the area, and what she does not know she'll find out for you.

A perfect stay in Otaru

Close to attration, quite convient!

Very helpful host, with excellent English and good local suggestions for amazinng food.  Parking was inside and secure, a huge bonus for traveling with skis. The common area was nice, and it was nice to have a kitchen to cook in! Good location to walk around town.
