We stayed two nights at the Sen Guest House in a double room with shared bathroom. The guest house is very nice with a nice common space, large hallways and large comfortable rooms. impeccable cleanliness everywhere. The owners are very friendly and very helpful. As soon as you arrive, they will explain to you exactly what you can do and how. They can also help you to send your luggage for example, if you want to do the Shimanami Kaido or call for you other accommodations if necessary. We would like all hostels to welcome their guests like this. Thank you!

Super hostel, very friendly guests!

Met Matthew, one of the lovely owners, as soon as I arrived. He immediately made me feel welcome and gave me a great overview of the area. By the time I had checked-in, I was already booking an extra night! Before arriving, I had thought that one day/two nights was enough but there are some excellent hiking trails in the area so I decided to stay for another day. So glad that I did! The hike between temples 44 and 45 is a must-do for keen walkers. Beautiful stretch and a good workout!

I stayed in a single room and it was one of the best night sleep I've had in Japan so far. Amazing bed, loads of room and really quiet. WiFi works well throughout the residence and the communal kitchen/hangout was spacious and clean. The guesthouse is situated 5 mins walk from Dogo Onsen, 8 mins from the Dogo Onsen streetcar (tram line) and 20 mins walk to Maysuyama Castle and downtown. Great location. Lots of places to eat and drink within 5 minutes walk if you don't want to head downtown.

I wouldn't stay anywhere else if I was coming back to Matsuyama! Huge thanks to Matt for his wonderful local knowledge and very useful maps!

Best place to stay in Matsuyama!

Wonderful place, very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for getting some rest after intensive journey around Shikoku :) Great rest area at the roof! We liked is so much that decided to stay longer than planned :) Thank You and good luck!

Really great place :)

A great place to stay in Matsuyama. The owners are a couple (Japanese and American) who are extremely helpful and friendly. They gave us extensive information about possible excursion destinations. The kitchen is large, as well as the community room. Various drinks are available. In the basement can be consumed onsen. In the basement can be consumed onsen. On the basement can be consumed onsen. Great owners, very helpful, great location.

The guesthouse is well located, 15 minutes from the Dogo Onsen. We just slept (late arrival and very early departure). The isolation between the rooms is very low, so privacy is limited. Good luck. The host received our luggage, which we had sent by Takkiyubin, and arranged for it to be shipped to our destination the next day.

For one step...

The owners are brilliant, always smiling and full of good advice. The place is charming, very clean, and what about the roof to watch the sun go down.

The hotel is quite well located but the reception by the owner was rather bad (we had just parked our car outside the hotel for a few minutes to empty the luggage and I was unlucky not to remove my shoes immediately upon arrival...) The rooms are traditional Japanese style but there is no WC (common female WC on the 2nd floor and man on the 1st floor) or bathroom (common bathroom in the DRC - possibility of renting towels and yukatas) in the room.

The common areas, bedrooms and bathrooms are very well maintained. The friendly owners give very good advice. There are many very good restaurants near the boarding house. We especially enjoyed the organization of a three-day walking tour by the owners on the footsteps of the monk Kukai.

There's a real friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the hostel, the owners and staff are really nice and helpful. We stayed in the dorm which was Japanese style, clean, comfortable bed and good AC. The kitchen was fully equipped so we could actually cook for ourselves well. The location is good, short walk to the tram and onsen. Shared bathroom, Japanese style, but you can have the room to yourself so no communal showering! Would definitely recommend. 

Great hostel

Very friendly and knowledgeable hosts. Great value for money. Quite hard to find (Japanese GPS directs you to the road parallel if you enter the phone number - a low-key re-light district). Rooms are simple and spotless. The roof terrace is an additional bonus. Shared bathroom / onsen system works well. Can't think why anyone would stay anywhere else in Matsuyama
