We chose this hotel because we wanted to visit Drachenschlucht. It's indeed very close to the sight, but unfortunately location is the only good thing to mention, everything else made us regret of the choice.

When we arrived there was no one at the reception desk and we had to go to the restaurant to find someone to let us in. After we got the keys and entered the room we found out that it's teeming with ants! They were all around the floor.
I immediately informed the staff hoping they could offer another room or any compensation, but instead they just sent a lady with a mop who tried to wipe the insects. Needless to say that 10 minutes later the ants were back again. There were just too many of them.
After seeing the insects, we were not very surprised to find someone's hair on the pillowcase and bad smell in the bathroom. But actually see-through door to the bathroom (and toilet!) in the room for 4 persons shocked a bit too :)
So if you love insects, don't care about basic hygiene and privacy - this hotel is a right choice. Everyone else should avoid this place.

Insektenhotel

We've been back here for dinner at the restaurant for a long time, and everyone can find something to their liking. Very friendly service, really delicious food, even the appetizers and desserts. We're happy to come back.

I 'd like to go back

We went on a week-long trip to the family room for one night and found it absolutely suitable. Service very friendly, price - performance very good. Rooms okay. Location perfect for hiking to Dragon Canyon. We were very satisfied.

Perfect for a few nights.

This hotel is run by a Croatian family. We were treated very friendly and cordially.

It's a little south of Eiesenach, close to hiking trails up to the Wartburg and the entrance to the Drachenschlucht is only 400 meters further. So you can leave your car at the hotel. There is adequate parking space and parking is free.

Our room had good and bad points: the bathroom was clearly newly renovated. However the provided chairs were a bit rickety.

The family runs a very good Croatian restaurant on the ground floor.
Do note that both hotel and restaurant are not wheelchair accessible to our knowledge. As the ground floor is elevated and can only be reached via a long flight of stairs. 

Family run hotel close to hiking trails

I warn you about this hotel: we had booked three single rooms and got one single room and one double room instead, where the bathroom door was made of transparent glass. (You don't want to know everything about other people.) On the way out, they promised me a partial refund on my credit card, which I didn't get, despite repeated requests. Also, it made it look like a restaurant operator had accidentally gotten a hotel. The staff seemed overwhelmed. Some employees were really sorry, others were upset about simple questions.

I'm lost after this stay.

We booked an overnight breakfast, breakfast was supposed to be from 8:00 to 10:00. At 8:15 we came to the restaurant, light out... cold and glasses on the floor. After 45 minutes of waiting and looking for the staff, the cleaning professional came and fixed a provisional breakfast.

Pride, never again

Hotel Sophieanue is in a lovely location if you plan to go hiking to Wartburg Castle or explore the Dragonslucht and is walking distance (30 minutes) to the town of Eisenach (though not so much fun at night and no bus service), so location was not a problem.
However our room would benefit from some updating - the curtain fell off the rails every morning and was on the chilly side (we stayed at the end of April).  We were told we had a 'garden view' from our room which was in fact a large expanse of ugly flat roof.  The beds were clean and comfortable and the shower and bathroom was also clean and adequate, though a bath mat would have been useful.  The towels were very hard and the bath towels had holes.
The restaurant however was good and the breakfast hearty and well balanced and set us up well for the day.
