Since I was traveling outside the reception hours, I got a code for the key soap, so no personal check in. I parked in the hotel parking lot. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of the parking fee regulations. Nor was I asked when I checked out if I used the parking lot and would like to pay for it. Instead, a month later, I got a mail from Park Collect receipt that charged me on behalf of the hotel owner for unauthorized parking costs with wildly exaggerated fees.

I'm stuck in the parking lot.

I'm a regular guest at Bayreuth hotels. I usually stay at my main hotel, but exceptionally here. A suitable room with a manageable bathroom is quite fine for one night. Overall, however, I would still prefer my main hotel. The location of the city centre is quite appealing, but in Bayreuth the distance is always very manageable. Whoever is looking for a stay for one night and a one-time visit is solidly booked here.

♪ For one night, all right ♪

We've been coming to this inn for a few years now. The hostess is not nice, we know that, but we like this kind of well-run single-family inn. And the house is near the center. The bread for breakfast is good, and so is the salmon. The terrace is nice. But this year the mood of the hostess and her employees was terrible. They were mean as soon as we had a request. We ask if they liked to correct their mistake with a 28€ discount on the bill: then they could be just as good as before! Thierry Delanoë

Nice hotel but unfriendly service

How many times have we been in our Golden Lion during the Bayreuth festivals? Somehow the festivals and the stay there were inseparable. A lovingly run old-style inn, very familiar, incredibly helpful and friendly staff, a phenomenal kitchen and - thanks to their charm of yesterday - a very comfortable room. How sad that the Golden Lion must now give up and risk a new start at the gates of Bayreuth.

A quiet, heartfelt farewell

No way! When booking was decided based on the homepage! On check-in, the way to the room was explained on request only. Room 8 is on the first floor? Yes! Room 8 is on the second floor, dear receptionist! It was a double room booked. We got a small single room with a double bed. Thanks to the roof tiles it was accident-free to go to bed, the wallpaper dissolves massively with your definitely more than 5 layers. And the bathroom! That one time you're stuck in a bathroom inside is ok. But instead of staining your shower, the shower reaches to the head almost so fast. There's also a tiny little bit of charity in the E. Please let me know now that I can't make the same amount of corn in the fridge!

The hotel is located slightly off from the main street making it a bit quieter. But the city center is still well within a walking distance and for a quick beer I'd recommend the neighbouring brewery. The parking place may be difficult to spot at first, but it's convenient and relatively cheap (3e/day, not included in the room). The rooms are standard quality, but getting slowly a bit old. Especially the beds and pillows would need to be renewed asap. In theory, there should be a WLAN service, but during our stay it wasn't working, so one more reason to visit the brewery (free WLAN). The breakfast buffet is pretty ok, but one could do also with more vegetables and the Brits will probably miss scrambled eggs and bacon. As a note, the breakfast is not included in the room price as default. The most annoying thing was that using the guest house entrance, one needed to open AND close two doors with a key to enter the building.  

By the way, the hotel restaurant is closed on Tue and Wed evenings, so you'll need to dine out.

All in all, when visiting Bayreuth again, I could imagine staying here again.

Good location, but bit and pieces lacking

I spent one night at this hotel and having stayed there before I was willing to give it another go-- despite the fact that there is no front desk service in the evenings, or that the kitchen was temporarily closed (though offering breakfast). When I arrived and (had to) let myself in as there was no front desk service, I was keen to settle and inform family and friends I had arrived and also complete my talk for the next day.  The internet was not working.  I figured it was just in my room - not so I was to discover the next day.  I went down for breakfast and stood in front of the reception to report my problem. The woman on duty was on the phone so I left her and came back a few minutes later but she told me she was busy attending to something and could I get my breakfast and she would attend to me. I told her it was urgent. She asked if I could not see she was busy. I left.  A few minutes later I went back and instead of attending to me she attended to another guest who arrived at the desk simultaneously.  When i finally got my word in her response about the non-functioning internet was that the problem had been reported but she could not say if it would work today, tomorrow or in a week.  I decided to check out.  Having anticipated spending 4 nights I was going to pay with a 500 euro note.  In the event the (same) woman at the reception told me she could not accept a note that large.  I had bought 2 boxes of their marmalade and offered to not buy the marmalade and then I would have enough smaller notes to pay for the room (the marmalade is very tasty and IF you ever go to Bayreuth you should buy even if you don't stay there). This same lady said she had already made a receipt for the marmalade and could thus not take it back.  I was stumped: won't take a 500, won't take the marmalade back so I could pay with a 100 euro note- I asked what I should do since I was also not willing to pay with a credit card.  In the event we called my hosts who assured her they would pay.  It has been a long time since I was treated this way in an hotel, as if a favour was being done me and I was a bother. Not to mention that a working internet is a basic feature of any hotel worth its salt today.

Note: rooms have wooden floors and no rugs so it's cold in winter. Hotel is 5 min ride from train station.

Unfriendly Service

I was already a customer at the restaurant, this time I tried the hotel too. Everything was very functional. I was in the basement, but the room was big. Maybe the bathroom was a little small and placed in a slightly uncomfortable corner. Very polite staff, fantastic breakfast. Everything really very good.

The hotel's great too.

This is the second time I've returned to the Goldener Lowe Hotel and it was a pleasant confirmation. The rooms at this Hotel Pension are spacious and clean and equipped with every comfort. The location is just a few steps from the pedestrian zone and has free parking.
