A true pearl in Pipriac, go with your eyes closed! Everything is perfectly welcoming, in service but above all, and that is the most important: what is in the plate!!! We took 2 menus a day, with 1 beer and 1 glass of wine and the addition was about 40€, for the quality served I highly recommend!!!

What a wonderful discovery.

Circumstances presented me with a small window of opportunity to visit a motor museum in Lohéac, Brittany, France.

To avoid a lengthy drive and the cost of a cross channel ferry, I committed myself to public transport ; planes, trains and buses. The logistics of my visit necessitated a two night stopover in the immediate vicinity.

I had failed to secure accommodation in Lohéac, so I defaulted to the nearby Pripriac.

Starting from Rennes, there are only 5 bus services out to Pipriac  (all p.m.) and only 5 out of Pipriac. As there were just enough suitable services, I chose Le Sabot Gourmand and Pipriac. Yes, just 5, this is a very rural bus service area. No matter, it worked for me .... in part, anyway !

I wish I had brought a car, the hotel had an excellent car park !

I don't speak French to any great extent.

Check in was 08:00 to 15:00. I did email the hotel to advise that I was arriving after 17:30 but before 18:30, which was promptly acknowedged and confirmined, by return as being ok. My arrival time I did achieve.

Arriving at the establishment it was closed. I couldn't find a bell to ring, so called their number off my mobile. In moments Madame Carré arrived at one of the two front doors. A very pleasant and charming lady who checked me in with virtually no formalities, other than accepting my copy of the booking confirmation. She even insisted on carrying my bag (13kg) up to the room, despite my protestations  !

Unwisely on my part, I had not made a reservation for dinner, and the place was clearly closed.

I had arrived early on a Tuesday evening. From their own timetable I couldn't see how dinner would have been available to me ??

From their own website they state

" ....Le Sabot Gourmand is open:
- Lunch: Tuesday to Sunday
- in the evening: from Friday to Saturday
12:00 to 14:00 and 19:00 to 20:30 (depending on the service)
Wednesday nights and Thursday nights are reserved for groups and private parties (minimum 8 people)....."

So no dinner service for a Monday, Tuesday, or a Sunday ? Have I read this wrong ?

Pipriac is not a bustling metropolis with other eateries, so the best place to dine would have been Lohéac ( which was ironic ). The last bus had left town for the evening. Even had I caught it, I would have had to have left Lohéac  at 20.10 to get back to the hotel ( I actually just managed to eat there on the Wednesday evening, as I was spending the day in Lohéac ).

I did manage to feed myself with items from a supermarket which was fairly close ( 700m ).

Madame Carré did offer to leave a prepared cold meal (salad) in my room for Wednesay, but not knowing my exact schedule, I had to decline. The consideration however was much appreciated.

I had Room #2, the open plan room, a bedroom, sitting area and bathroom only divided behind a wooden screen.

I knew about this in advance, and it was not a problem. None at all, I was travelling solo. I have now chuckled, when reading another reviewer who said this room was not for a first date type of vacation, owing to the open bathroom facilty lol.

The room was adequately furnished. It was spotlessly clean and in good order. A very good above average power jet shower ( I only used the normal setting head though ).

I discovered a communal refrigerator and microwave in the corridor serving the remaining 4 rooms of the hotel.

The dining room used for breakfast, was bright, colourful, and as well furnished, as any boutique hotels I have stayed in of late. Good marks for this.

Breakfast was of limited options, but then I have been spoiled by huge early morning buffets in hotels from a much different league as this one. What I ate was fine, and set me up for the day.

In summary, Le Sabot Gourmand put a roof over my head for two nights, gave me a clean and tidy room and fed me breakfast. It was all I needed. I was happy with what I got, and for what I paid.

Monsieur and Madame Carré are two of the most charming, welcoming and delightful people you could hope to meet.

I regret giving any of my low scores, but I gave them as my honest opinion of Le Sabot Gourmand in comparison of other hotels I stayed in. It is in the minor league and not the major league, but does it well in its own limits.

A Quaint French hotel

Very pleasant accommodation and contact, beautiful decoration of the well-arranged room, toilets also very clean and pleasant, very good meal made with delicate and care, very good quality of products. Restaurant to highly recommend, even if it requires a detour not to miss this opportunity. We look forward to renewing the experience.

It's a great restaurant.

We were in room two on the second floor First of all, it's important to note that the people who host us are really friendly, professional and kind. Then the room is spacious, according to the booking photos, clean and quiet. The parking lot is also very convenient. So everything seems perfect except... Actually there is no real separation (door...) between the room and the bathroom and there is no separation between the bathroom and the toilet. Also, only a shelter from the rest of the room.

A must read for young couples.

I pass this restaurant daily and always wanted t try it, maybe I expected to much but was very disappointed with the experience.
We was in the upstairs part of the restaurant, drab, cold and lacking any atmosphere. From the start, Noix St Jaques, nicely cooked but I don't understand the raw strips of beetroot, not nice to eat, my fish with langostines, served on a bed of what seemed like frozen veg was very nice, however the wife's faux fillet was tough, almost impossible to chew, a complaint got an apology but no attempt to right the problem was made. For desert, Kroug pomme, very dry a chewy, served with a ble noir popcorn, not all the of the kernels popped, understandably, but those that didn't burned, make it sound as nice as you like but burned food tastes burned, simple, the waitress can argue as much as she likes, which she shouldn't do, but if it's burned, it's burned.
A bill of €110 which I'm disappointed in myself for paying for the meal no way justified what was a very disappointing experience.



Dissapointing

We spent one night with 2 adults and 2 small children. The room (number 5) was very spacious, with a comfortable double bed, a one-person bed and we had brought an umbrella bed (but the hotel has one too). A large velvet overlooked the back, so no street noise and guaranteed darkness, a good thing. Parking was closed behind the hotel, many seats. There were apparently no other guests so it was very quiet, no noise. The staff was very welcoming, ready to put themselves in four for the guests and really available, difficult to find better. Very good impression, to recommend.
