I'm pregnant and have a little boy of three years old. We paid in advance for the entire stay. The mattresses were really uncomfortable and of poor quality. And on both nights: one night was worse than the other with light cuts. It was too hot. In the cost (which is not cheap) he mentions that it included a ventilator and air conditioner that every time he took it, the light from the whole room went out.

Terrible 

I was amazingly surprised by this little hidden gem in the coast of Ecuador.  The place has a nice beach atmosphere.  The premises have a rustic style.  Our room in the lower floor of the cabin was off the beach so we had an amazing view.  Had a great time just laying down on the hammock.  Great place to rest and be far from the noise.  Service and food were amazing.  It is about 15 minutes north of Montañita.  The beach is very clean and you have a few miles of beach to enjoy a morning or night walk.  Sunset is just formidable.  My family and I had a great time!

A nice little hidden Gem!

Cuna Luna is a cozy place with a spectacular view.The beach is immense and you can access it from the hotel.You can see the best sunsets from the room and even hear the sound of the sea.

An incredible place to enjoy the beach! the experience of taking refuge and hanging out in front of the sea without worrying about anything, the disconnect I was looking for.

This  place received both good and bad reviews and we would like to add some as objective as possible comments.

You should be aware that Cuna Luna is not in Montañita, and not even in the nearby town of Olón. It is about a 10 minute drive from Cuna Luna to Olón, and about 15 tot 20 minutes to Montanita.

We stayed here (couple with baby) for four nights in low season and were practically the only guests. That made it a quiet and tranquil stay, just as we wanted. Cuna Luna is one of the few hotels right on the beach, you walk out of your cabin onto the beach. That is a great advantage. 

The rooms and cabins are basic, wooden constructions. Rooms are one above another, so with full occupation, it will be noisy. 

Don’t expect any luxury at Cuna Luna. There are no televisions, no jacuzzi, no swimming pool, no air conditioning (in our room), although there is wifi. We didn’t expect or wanted any luxury of that kind, so for us it was fine, but you should be aware of this if your taste is otherwise.

We occupied a suite that has a living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. It was spacious and just behind the single-room cabins so we were didn’t have much direct ocean views. Still good enough to sleep with the sounds of the waves, although barking dogs during the night were doing their best to sound louder than the ocean. I suppose if you book one of the rooms directly at the ocean, the dogs won’t bother you.

It must be taken into account that Cuna Luna is not in the town of Olón itself, but in a community called San José, an almost 10 minutes drive north from Olón and about 15 minutes out of Montañita. 

Since there is nothing to see or do in San José, you depend on your own means of transportation or public buses to enjoy Olón or Montañita. Take that into account, because travelling between Olón and Cuna Luna is easy with your own vehicle, but might be exhausting by public transport.

The place itself is well maintained and currently there are some constructions taking place to build some more cabins. However there are good and less good things to say about our stay. Towels and bed linen were refreshed daily, and attention by the staff is good.

On our arrival however, we found the kitchen in our department dirty and it was cleaned upon our request. Although not very thoroughly, and there was still some mould in the fridge and coffee stains in the coffee machine, food rests on the knives. The rest of the apartment was quite clean and kept clean during our stay. However, it didn’t have curtains, although the other rooms do have curtains.

Breakfast is almost every day the same, consisting of a few bread rolls, eggs, marmalade, juice and fruits.. Moreover, breakfast is served from 8.30 onwards but we tried and got to eat a bit earlier. On the third day we were surprised with some extra yoghurt and granola.

The mosquito screens in the rooms are not very effective, as the wooden construction leaves small openings between doors , windows and walls that permit small mosquitos to enter the room at night.

So take into account the location, in a small community without any restaurants or other touristic sites. Situated right at the beach is a great plus. In terms of price-quality-relation we found Cuna Luna a bit overpriced, specifically the food in the restaurant is expensive. Room prices ($60/night for a basic double room including breakfast and ocean view) are relatively high as was the price for the apartment ($ 80/night). In the town of Olón you will find a decent double room for 25 dollars a night; so the beachfront location of Cuna Luna doubles your price....

All in all the place lacks a bit of dedication to guests and a real good focus on clients service, although it is worthwhile if you are looking for beachfront tranquillity without much other tourists around.

Secluded and quiet

We had booked for several nights and had to pay half of the total amount in advance. When we arrived, the key was pressed into our hand, and there was no greeting or explanation. The room did have a fantastic view, but there was also a nice smell in the air. When we first tried to use the toilet, we noticed that the bowl was waving. The nails were coming out of the reception facilities. The ventilator on the deck was pressed into our hand, so we didn't dare to wait. The next morning we went to our children's hotel room because of the next morning's breakfast, but the staff explained to my family that they were eating the whole day's breakfast, but they almost didn't want to leave the bathroom. They barely got a quick breakfast, and I explained to them later that there was a reasonable price, so we couldn't afford to stay in the hotel, so we could not pay for the price of the hotel, and I just wanted to make sure that we could not pay for the price of the hotel.

Low quality for a lot of money

The ad says staff is multilingual, that definitely is not true! The ad shows that a kitchen is available, that is also not true. Definitely not worth the hefty 60 dollars per night price!

False advertising

	We stayed at Cuna Luna for a few weeks. Originally we were located in the tower cottage at the back of the property since it has a kitchen and we were looking for a long term, self-catering accommodation. Unfortunately, it is beyond the control of the proprietors that the noise and street lights in the village makes that an uncomfortable stay, beside the fact that it is very rustic and outdated. Fortunately, the staff and the owner are very eager to see that their guests enjoy a comfortable and restful stay, so we were relocated for several nights to one of the beach front casitas. While there is no kitchen at present, we understand that plans are underway to change that in some of the casitas in the near future. The rooms are spacious, and the bathroom is ample. The private, covered balconies overlooking the ocean are wonderful, with hammocks for sitting in the breeze. In the casitas, the only sounds you hear at night are waves crashing on the shore just off the balcony. Breakfast is served in the restaurant, as well as coffee, but if you are used to a typical restaurant, remember, this is Ecuador. Nothing is made ahead, and that's a good thing, neither is there much variety. Enjoy the local fruits and juices made on site and the typical breakfast of fresh eggs with warm breads. (If you like your coffee when you wake up, I suggest bringing a french press and a Hobb with your own coffee since the restaurant doesn't open until 8:30.)
	San Jose is an easy commute from Montanita by bus or cab. Public transportation is affordable and convenient. Olon is even closer. 
	We plan to visit again and look forward to seeing the very friendly staff.

The hotel is built very tastefully in the local style, and has a relaxed atmosfere. 
Its position is unique In front of an unspoiled beach just a few minutes drive from Montanita.
The couple who are running the place were friendly and helpful.

Only the restaurant could do with some more attention. 

We might have skipped the trip to Isla de la plata, which turned out to be expensive, very long drives to get there, first by car and then by boat, and then it was really not interesting enough, Especially for children. Long walks in the blazing heat to see a few "Patas Azules", but nothing else really. 

But we had a lovely time, thank you.

Endless unspoilt beach

We spent 5 wonderful days in Cuna Luna in February! The hotel is built with great taste in local style, and it has a relaxed atmosphere. Its location is unique in front of an uncontaminated beach and is a few minutes' drive from Montanita. The couple who run the hotel were kind and available. Only the restaurant would need a little more attention. We would have skipped the trip to Isla de la Plata, which was recommended to us. It turned out to be very expensive, very long to get there, first by car and then in, and then it wasn't that interesting, especially for children. Long walks with a lot of heat to see some Patas Azules, but nothing really. Sure, thanks to nothing to see the Galapagos! But we were very much at the hotel Ramona, we were very nice.
