We stayed in a double here. Room was large enough and had a private bathroom. Good hot water. Good location. Large airy window. Quiet so easy to sleep. Breakfast was good and filling.  Pleasant staff. Towels changed daily.  Internet struggled.

One downside is that locks on the bedrooms were basic and felt insecure. We believe they would be easily broken into. Having said that we would stay here again. 

Good budget hotel in good location 

I was GRANDPAcking in Cuenca for 5 nights.
I booked myself into the Posada Gran Colombia … it was on the north-eastern ‘edge’ of the Historical Centre. I was in the wrong location.
I booked a Double Room (single occupancy) at a discounted rate of just under US$16 / night including Breakfast.
My room was on the 3rd floor and it was an above average size.
It had some furniture … including a clothes rack. 
It, also, had excellent Cable TV with heaps of English speaking channels.
It had an average sized ensuite.
And a very good hot water shower (at this time of year, hot water is almost a necessity).
It had a nice view out over a small side street.
The Free WiFi was very good (most of the time) and the Breakfast (although simple) was great for the price that I paid (coffee / tea, fruit juice, 2 scrambles eggs, and toast filled with cheese).
They were even kind enough to refill my coffee for free if I asked them.

All good - except for the location

The staff is very friendly, the rooms are quite large, there is a TV, a shower and a toilet in each room, and breakfast is not quite as complete as I like, but we had a great stay.

Very good hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay here - the hostal is really well located - close to everything.  The staff was very friendly, the breakfast really good, the room clean, internet good - was much better than we had expected and the price was very reasonable!  Definitely recommend this place.

Cuenca is amazing!

We stayed here two nights. Our stay was between average and very good, making it just good.

Upsides;
- In terms of location, it is fine. You can walk to some of the more popular squares, restaurants, and the bus station.
- Our room was fairly spacious with two big sleepers
- There is a bar/restaurant
- One staff member speaks English
- Bus times of all operators are clearly displayed

Some downsides and things we did not like;
- the walls are quite thin
- we had laundry done at the hostal. We noted that the weight we had to pay for was NOT the weight of our laundry. Also, I lost one travel sock
- the curtains in our room were very thin
- it's a litte bit hidden away in a darker alley; I do not strongly recommend females walking alone here.
- Breakfast is very basic
- the staff seemed more occupied with laughing and fooling around
- WIFI connection in room was bad; had to open the door to get some reception
- the roof terrace does not have great views

Between average and very good, making it just good

Staff is always friendly and helpful here, and it is one of the first places I've stayed at in a while where they claim to offer hot water and actually have it!! I always had hot showers, Wi-Fi works well in all areas, there is complimentary drinking water, and the location is nice and close to the central plaza. I also appreciate that you receive a key to enter and leave as you please without having to continually ring a doorbell:) I would definitely recommend for a short or long visit in Cuenca!!

Overall great experience!

Nice location, clean room With hot water, breakfast included. The staff is super friendly. The hotel is ideally located to visit the museums and monuments of the city centre. Commerce and restaurant nearby. We also recommend the Barraca coffee for a drink and snack! Good atmosphere!

Hostel very clean and accommodating at a very affordable price.The staff of the hostel was very friendly at all times.The hostel is close to the center, you can visit the old town on foot in a single day and also go out at night, the area is safe.The internet is very fast for what you find when traveling around Ecuador.

How to live at home.

For a short stop, the hotel is well suited, as it is not far from the bus terminal. From here everything is easily accessible on foot. I was kindly welcomed. The room is no longer completely new but it is large and has enough storage space. Unfortunately, there was no curtain on one side of the window, so I covered the window with a blanket, otherwise everyone could have looked in. The WiFi was so lazy, breakfast was so lazy.

Good for a short stop.

The room that was given to me at the beginning had no windows and had a TV but no cable service, so I asked if they could change me to one that had a window and the one that was given to me had no TV.Breakfast is included with the price, $15 per individual room, and consists of toastadas, huevos revueltos, juice and coffee.Wi-Fi works properly in room 2.The cleaning is also correct and it looks like it was recently renovated because it oils quite a bit of paint.The area is a bit dangerous at night and now cannot be reached by taxi due to the tram works.
