Zhangjiajie Baway  Fashion Hotel

Very nice for being both in and out of the town proper. I got a great view of the mountains from my room and the room itself was fantastic. The only down was that the shower wasn't very hot. Happy to recommend the hotel though! 15-20 min walk to cable car, town proper, or just for a walk down the river.

Nicely situated on the edge of town, pretty clean, cheap, helpful staff - what's not to like? The wi-fi works, the rooms are spacious, the showers are excellent. Again, what's not to like? The only negative is that practically everybody smokes around here and there is a lingering smell of stale cigarettes.

Lovely Room, Great view

Can't argue with much about this hotel

Location : 

About 12 minutes' walk from ZJJ City’s long distance bus and train station (if you have heavy luggage, get a taxi for 5 RMB). Not much amenities around hotel. One small convenience shop and around 3 small non-descript restaurants close by. Hotel faces several high-rise apartments on one side. There’s a skyscraper still under construction that faces the hotel’s entrance. A better choice will be  rooms that face the direction of Tianmen Shan, at least you get to see some greenery. Many auto-parts shops along the road near the hotel. You can find more restaurant choices, a McDonald outlet and supermarket just beside the long distance bus station.

Room : 

Fairly well-decorated and very spacious with large windows. Shower room does not seem to be cleaned thoroughly, basin top looks spotty and some dusty corners are spotted in the shower room. Standard amenities are found in the room : toiletries, towels, mini fridge, hairdryer, LCD TV, kettle etc. The air-conditioner does not seem to be in operation during my stay.

Service and Breakfast :

A small plate of cut oranges is sent to your room upon check-in. 2 glasses of hot milk are brought to your room nightly at 9 pm - nice touch but rather odd!
Breakfast time is chaotic - full of tour groups on most mornings and the food is horrific. Even the local tour group complained that the (mostly) Chinese food tasted awful. Only the fried eggs and toast are worth eating.
Housekeeping staff are much nicer and more service-oriented than the front desk staff (some of whom are quite sullen).  

On the whole, the hotel is alright and it’s just 5 RMB by taxi to Tianmen Shan cable car station (5 minutes). I find Tianmen Shan a lot more interesting and relaxing than ZJJ or Wulingyuan (near-insane tour groups) and yet the crowd at Tianmen Shan is not as bad as ZJJ and Wullingyuan. However, it might be a better idea to stay in either Wulingyuan or ZJJ village instead of ZJJ city as the bus journey from ZJJ city to either one of the national park entrances (ZJJ park & Wulingyuan) takes around 1 hour each way (be prepared to spend 2 hours on the bus each day during your 3-day park visit – quite a waste of time if you factor in the queuing time for the various cable cars and Bailong elevator in the parks – the wait for each of the ride can take up to 1 to 3 hours and that’s not an overstatement!!!).

The room is modern and clean but with slow Wi-Fi. The hotel is 15-20min walk to the Tianmenshan cable car station. 

Few taxis and fewer eateries are available near the premise.

Breakfast is a joke.  Diluted sweetener milk and soybean milk are provided. Condiment for the porridge is almost inedible. The eggs are overcooked. No coffee, tea, bread, salad or fruit. The only food recognizable is the cherry tomatoes.

I would recommend this hotel for travellers who enjoy walking and who skip breakfast.
