7Days Inn Huangpu Avenue Dongpu Subway Station

This hotel is in an industrial/suburban area. It's a 10min walk to a Metro station, and the equivalent of a USD$6.00 taxi ride to the centre of Guangzhou. The staff are great, and during the Canton Fair they have additional staff that speak English to help out. Although rough I really enjoyed walking around the neighbourhood at night, feeling safe at all times. It's a different experience to staying in a 4 or 5 star hotel in the city, so be prepared to accept that. I loved this aspect of it. I ate locally, shopped locally ... just as the average person from Guangzhou did. The rooms are average and need a spruce up, but for me they were fine. The beds are hard (like most in China), but that's how I prefer my mattresses ... so I slept fantasically. The windows are not double glazed, so if you are sensitive to noise the traffic may disturb you although it's not a busy street (the Chinese love to blast their car horns at anything!). If you are precious then this hotel is not for you. If you want good value for money and don't mind missing out on hotel luxuries then it's pretty good. The staff try their best to make your stay pleasant. Some taxi drivers don't know the area/address so make sure you have the hotel telephone number handy so that they can call the hotel themselves and get directions if needed. It costs approx 250 to 300RMB from the International airport by taxi. If travelling by Metro then the hotel is in between the Dongpu and the Sanxi stations on Line 5. It costs about 5RMB to get to a city station from these stations. Will hopefully be back at the Miya, but hopefully they could add a few modern touches to the rooms by then!
