Honestly I really wanted to love this place, the concept is very cool; However reality fell short. The place  is very isolated, which I understand is the point, however I would then expect more in terms of entertainment (games in lobby, group offered meet ups, etc). For the king trek from Belize City, my expectations fell short. 

For the very high cost I was not impressed- when you’re spending upwards of $400/night I expect a lot, not to mention in Belize. We’ve stayed at several other resorts for less and have gotten way more. The staff was friendly enough but again definitely not what I would expect at this price point. The stairs/trams were very cool and unique- kayaking on the river also was very cool. If you’re still considering this place, would actually recommend the jungle suites over the canopy as they have screened in porches (a must for bugs) and were nestled in the trees. 
The resort food was good, not great, and very expensive once they add all the tax and fees. Overall I recommend other locations for the jungle experience.

Mediocre

We had such a great time staying at Copal Tree Lodge for our honeymoon. The Signature Canopy suite was amazing - we loved the private pool (shared by the 4 suites), the huge room and balcony, seeing the howler monkeys up close, and how we had sun for most of the day at the pool. The food was probably the best part of our stay. There are tons of different options for each meal and everything we ordered tasted incredible. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. We would highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a beautiful hotel in the jungle!

Amazing trip in the jungle

My hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Copal Tree Lodge. The facility and food were fantastic. However, it was the warm and friendly staff that made our vacation memorable. A special shout-out to Elon. 👏 We took a few tours and activities from their offerings. We were impressed with the guides’ knowledge and learnt a lot about the Mayan culture and local birds (from Birding). We had a minor issue in our room. The staff and manager went above and beyond to address the issue. It was also worth mentioning that the lodge hires locals to run the operation. We felt that was important. 

A Memorable Vacation at Copal Tree Lodge

Way back when, it was called Machaca Hill,   I brought my 3 sons here (10,  11, and 13 at the time).     It was a fishing lodge,   with a small organic farm.      Fast forward to today,   and WOW!    The farm has certainly grown.    Fields and fields of sugar cane for Copalli  Rum production.    Chocolate.    Coffee.    Amazing to see the evolution.
The suites (jungle suites),   have had a soft refurb.     Spacious.    Bed and linens were heavenly.    The addition of an actual sliding door,  in order to have a/c was a plus.    Sitting on the screened porch listening to the howler monkeys is something I miss already.        The main communal areas have been painted and updated.    It is now separate dining (as opposed to the family-style from long ago).     And certainly,   the clientele is different.      If I have one small criticism,   it is the loud music.     Please.....the fabulous sounds of the jungle are all you need at breakfast and lunch,   and for dinner,   the volume should be lower.      But back onto the positive:    
 
13 years ago,   Chan was our on-site guide.     He took us kayaking,  and hiking on the property,   giving us a tour of the farm  (so much smaller).      It was SO wonderful to meet up with him again,   and share old photos.     He made sure to have me reconnect with folks from the past......Wilfred,  Mark,   Tim,  and Ducky.       And on our last tour,    Wilfred met up  with Vincent,   so we could share photos and a laugh or two.

My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the jungle atmosphere,  and the food.    We toured the farm,   made chocolate,   kayaked the river (hopefully the tram is back working again),    and visited Nim Li Punit.         Yes,   it is pricey.    But in my opinion,   worth it.    Price and Value are different concepts,   and I believe the value is definitely here.     This is an experiential place.      The people who work here,   and the people who have been here for many,   many years,   truly make it special.     Ducky,   Chan,   Elon,   Jacki,   Joseph,  Wilfred   (I could go on and on),   are truly excited about their jobs,   and their roles.     And  I think that says a lot.

Return trip after 13 years

Tucked away at the (fish) tail end of Belize, Copal sits in some of the most undisturbed vegetation in the country. Thick, lush rainforest surrounds the property. This encourages wildlife, including birds, to roam free. We felt surrounded by nature the entire time even though all the modern amenities and friendly staff were available to us at all times. There are tons of activities including fishing that my husband was happy to learn about however just being surrounded by nature was enough to keep me busy looking at hummingbirds and butterflies floating around. I highly recommend for those wanting to unwind and disconnect in a natural setting. 

Worth the time it takes to get there

The property is stunning and our canopy suite was one of the most spectacular accommodations we have ever stayed at - beautifully designed, spacious and clean, with an absolutely incredible view over the rainforest and Maya Mountains. The canopy units are very private with their own infinity pool atop the hill, sprawling views of jungle and the Rio Grande below, an abundance of birds, howler monkeys in nearby trees- it was a truly fantastic and memorable experience. The in-house Garden Table Restaurant has a lovely ambiance and view and we enjoyed seeing so many hummingbirds right from our table. Chef Julie’s specials were sensational - complex flavors, lovely presentation and cooked to perfection. But we could also tell when she had the night off, because quality and flavor dropped noticeably - that’s our single little suggestion for improvement. All staff was very friendly and welcoming - a special thank you and shout-out to mixology experts Ducky and Tim, who created the best cocktails in all of Belize with the award-winning on-site distilled Copalli Rum, activities coordinator and gardener extraordinaire Elon, Cynthia at the restaurant, sunset river cruise captain Jose and our wonderful housekeeper Lazarus. We highly recommend staying at Copal Tree Lodge and hope to return soon! 

Magnificent!!!

5 star across the board. From the accommodation, the farm to table dining and the impeccable service. Birding and hiking guides were excellent. Filmed howler monkeys from our balcony. Amazing views from our wrap around patio of the rain forest.

Bliss!

My wife and I just returned from our first trip to Belize and feel so fortunate we found the Copal Tree Lodge.  The people, the surroundings, the rooms, the tours, the food & drinks, they were all unbelievable.  We had zero disappointments.  

The staff was amazing. Tim the bar tender (mixologist) made amazing drinks.  If you had a special request he would custom make for you.  The food was delicious and a little different every evening.  One chef special was also offered every night.  Elisha was our favorite server (extremely pleasant and fun).

We did many of the tours and each tour guide was exceptional.  They were all very sharp and passionate in their field.  Desmond on both the Birding & Evening Hike Tour was amazing. Very knowledgeable.  Martin on the tour of the town provided a very sincere and interesting history of the city and the people. Elon new his stuff as well and provided a very educational tour of the plants and their medicinal benefits.

The entire staff bends over backwards to ensure everything is to your satisfaction. The resort is very relaxing and casual with a slight touch of elegance.  

We loved the rainforest (and its Howler Monkeys) and glad we were at the Copal Tree to experience it all.

Truly the best ...

Had an awesome time! Everyone was so attentive and helpful! It was a wonderful experience! Loved every moment of our stay!!  Special shoutout to Jim Scott,  Elon Ranguy, Karen from reception, Ambrosio and Revaldo! They made us feel most welcome .

Had a wonderful experience

The incredible jungle setting and amazing, helpful staff stood out for my brief getaway at this location near where I live. Howler monkeys delighted with an afternoon performance while I lounged in my outdoor hottub, and hummingbird feeders in the dining room added to the ambience. I was disappointed that the food itself was mediocre, overcooked vegetables accompanied a small slab of fish, grilled pork belly was tough, the crust on a sliver of pie for dessert even tougher. The masseuse for my pricy spa experience was highly proficient, but it was raining, making the uninsulated room uncomfortable. Dimmer switches on the lighting were inoperable, so it was bright light or none. The outdoor area in the location of the Signature Canopy Suites where I stayed needed attention, as chairs were mildewed, and the infinity pool wanted a coat of paint. My room was clean, spacious and comfortable, with outstanding views.
