B&B Cherry Blossom

I was singing in Ypres at a commemoration, and I wanted to stay in a local B&B rather than the usual big hotel, that often has little atmosphere. 

My wife and I decided a B&B, and we found this farmer's cottage in the middle of nowhere. We were travelling by Eurostar and contacted the owners of the B&B and spoke to, Liz about transport links. To our amazement, she offered to collect us from, Lille. She also said she would drop us off at, Lille. Were were staying for 4 days.

When we arrived at, Lille, Liz was there where she asked us to wait. She had my mobile number just in case.

When we arrived at the cottage, which is a linked cottage, we walked into a VERY large dining room/living room. There was a wood stove blazing, which was lovely. Liz and her husband, John, were as warm and welcoming as the stove, and had a pot of tea on the table almost as soon as we had put our bags down.

There were several cats in the living area, but we understand this is the owners home that we are in, and the cats were lovely, and very quiet.

The house was spotless. The obviously fastidious hosts take great care ensuring the bedrooms and bathroom are kept clean. In a B&B we would never expect the beds to be made-up, that is usually the job of a larger hotel, but the shower room was cleaned every day.

There are 3 bedrooms upstairs. The shower room/ toilet is not en-suite, but that didn't matter. The owners live in another part of the house, downstairs, therefore, the bedrooms are very private. We were shown around the bedrooms and every room has a flat-screen TV and has satellite TV, including getting all of the UK channels if you like the BBC news et al.

Liz asked my wife and I if we wanted to see any of the War Grave sites, which we did, and she drove us around 6 cemeteries. This is her time she is taking to make us feel very welcome.

If you like 4 star hotels, don't go to this B&B, if you like a 4 star B&B, great hosts, and by the way, a brilliant full English breakfast and copious amounts of tea and coffee, you couldn't be any happier.

This is a farmers cottage that doesn't pretend to be anything grand. But was is grand is the welcome, the space, the great sleep we both had every night, and two owners who genuinely care about making you feel welcome.BTW, there is even free WiFi.

I am singing again next year in Ypres, and we have already booked the room.

Very welcoming, made my sons and feel very at home. Great knowledge of the area and WW1. I have recommended this B&B to my family. Very central for anything to do with WW1. Thank you for a lovely stay.

This is a place that you read about on places such as trip advisor and think "It can't be that good. I mean, really?" The difference between the Cherry Blossom and most places is that the Cherry Blossom delivers the goods. Rarely have I felt so welcome and cared for at a friends house, let alone a B&B or hotel. Maybe that says something about me or my friends. 

In any event. John and Liz (and the cats) are excellent hosts. They are knowledgeable about the memorials and fields of the Ypres Salient, and will provide great advice about your stay. Jon is knowledgeable about the local beers, and I will be forever in his debt for introducing me to Le Chouffe. Breakfasts were very tasty and very generous.

One of my more enduring memories of our time in Ypres will be chatting with John and Liz in the front room over a cold beer or two. It is rare to stay in such a place as the Cherry Blossom, and rare to meet folks the caliber of John and Liz.

Welcoming and Wonderful

Lovely couple running a B&B in their home. Extended to add rooms for guests, though you share the front room with the owners.  Great breakfast and really helpful people, though you need to like cats as there are two who like to sleep on your bed and walk on the dining table. No wifi - interference from next door, and no mention when booking that you had to pay cash, slightly embarrassing. Very good for stopover though and really friendly and knowledgeable hosts.

Different

John and Liz were so welcoming and friendly throughout our stay, it was like visiting and being put up by friends ! We 'shared' their home, not ushered to a separate lone area or confined to the bedroom. Accomodation was very clean and tidy, and the beds were comfortable. Good nights of sleep. Lovely English cooked breakfast, together with Tea/Coffee/Orange Juice, Bread, Marmalade, Jam (incl homemade). Set up for the day - what more could you ask ? Well situated to cover the Ypres Salient, with no location too far. Liz has lots of knowledge re WW1 to help guide you to key areas if you have not personally already planned your itinerary. An array of WW1 books are available to look at in their lounge, together with a few good condition WW1 artefacts. Located in a peaceful rural area, yet within approx. 2km of a main road towards Ypres, there are relaxing vistas to start and end your day. Perfect ! Recommend a stay without a doubt.
