If you intented in merida for some days, progreso offers a decent beach with loads of Mexican coming down on holidays.
The hostal is a nice early 20th mansion, clean, helpful staff, and excursion.
It s good place to stay if you intend to travel inland

This is one of the rare places that, when you are looking back after travelling, give you
this special feeling, maybe all individual travellers are searching for.

Hopefully the nice chilean couple will run this hostel for longer.

As soon as we entered the hostel (we had a booking for a private room), we were warmly greeted by smiling and super friendly Bernardo.  He gave us some more options to choose from and was extremely accommodating.  His wife Natalie is also an amazing woman.  They have created a hostel that feels like home. It's an old mansion house, very spacious, bright  and clean with a lot more potential (and they are all working on it) and a 1 min walk to the beach. They provide yoga classes, salsa classes, Spanish classes, a spacious well equipped kitchen and their breakfast is included - here these guys are ON TOP of it:  The moment you get out of your bed and enter the kitchen still sleepy-eyed, they literally hand you a coffee/juice and your desired egg style breakfast right into your hands.  You walk out onto their super sunny back patio to eat it and you have a bowl of fruit, coconut and all, with a wide choice of good quality yogurt.  The breakfast vibe alone makes you forget the time and next thing you know you talked your mouth off with great people and it's time for lunch! We stayed there only 2 nights but as we were leaving, we didn't really want to go.  It was like leaving another home of ours, and really good friends.   - Ivona and Darrin (Canada)

After staying in the Zocalo hostel in the city I thought they would be pretty similar, however the beach hostel is a little run down, it's a huge mansion which is in need of a little love. 

There was only me and my wife and one other staying so the place seemed empty! Which was nice and quiet but a little too quiet.
The breakfast is great and it's nice to sit out on the back and eat breakfast in the sun.
The guys working are super friendly and can help you with any information or anything you need. It's only 1 block off the beach.

Overall a great stay and I can imagine a great atmosphere when it's a little busier.



Nice hostel, friendly and helpful volunteer staff, good breakfast not as good as it's big brother hostel in Merida. No hot water, staff noisy in the mornings. Nice place to come if you want to get away to the beach "of the beaten track" for a couple of days, just note it was very windy and for swimming the water was warm but dirty.
