Hotel Montana Malang surprised me for my thesis retreat. While it's not the most modern, the Javanese decor with wayang puppets offered a calming, cultural escape from the usual sterile hotels, perfect for sparking creativity. The quiet location and clean, older room kept me focused, and the budget-friendly price was ideal for a student. It may lack fancy amenities, and there could be minor noise from older fixtures, but for a focused and culturally-charged thesis retreat, Hotel Montana was a hidden gem. Just be prepared for basic amenities and potential noise.
