Casa Naranja

La casa naranja was a great place to stay and exactly what we needed being in Cuenca. the Senora looked after us, serving breakfast at the time we wanted. She has shown us the lovely fashion of alpaca wool that she designs. The room was simple but stylish and every room has a different style. The house is situated in the centre just a 5 minutes walk to the huge cathedral. The  front door looks quite small but the house itself is huge and built in a lovely colonial style that will surprise you.

We started out on the wrong foot because Expedia had not sent our reservation so only by luck was the room with the private bath available.  I say by luck or maybe not because although the building is beautiful and decorated tastefully it is also very chilly so I think that some heaters would come in handy.  The breakfast could use perhaps some variety but the owner was all alone since at carnaval nobody works including her employee who did not show up!
As in all showers in Ecuador this one was also a little tricky but the water had good pressure and hot.  I think the place is in a good location but a bit overpriced.  My husband chose this place and loved it, I personally think that for the price, in Ecuador you could go much further.  What made the worst impression on me was touching the doors that in a near future just might desintrigrate because of the nasty wood termites, but that´s colonial for you.

Colonial all the way

I guess Casa Naranja isn't what it used to be from what I read in reviews they used to serve breakfast, that's no longer happening. The owner speaks no English. And the place has a funky smell and a lock that can easily be broken into. I couldn't leave for such long durations cuz I felt my valuables would get taken. For 20$ a night a friend of mine got a place of air bnb where he stayed in a loft in downtown with a lady who spoke English.
Note the lady said the hot shower will be available for a cpl of minutes but so far nothing comes out but freezing ice water 

Meeeh, alright I guess 

My husband and I spent three nights here in March. We found the rooms to be spacious and very clean, with great beds and pillows, and lovely linen. The owner was lovely, suggesting restaurants and places to see. She got up super early to make us breakfast. All in all we found the hotel to be quite nice, but as stated in other reviews, a bit pricey .

alittle overpriced

We had a reservation for one night. Days before our arrival, we received an e-mail stating they would like our arrival time as they do not have staff on the premises. We informed the woman writing, we would arrive at 4pm. 

At 3:50pm, we were ringing the bell. There was no answer. The windows all had closed shutters and there was no sign of life at all. We waited until 4:20pm, then went looking for someplace to make a call to the phone number provided. We don't have phones that work here and being Sunday, it was a challenge. Finally finding an ex-pat who let us use the phone, it went right to a message in Spanish. 

We stood outside until 4:50pm, but still no one arrived to let us in. We left and found another accommodation, which turned out to be less expensive and included breakfast. 

When I called the booking agency to report this no-show to make sure I would not be charged, they confirmed with the hostel that there was an emergency, so the person could not meet us to let us in. It seems their staffing is a party of one.
