Rocking Ox Gasthaus

Stayed there for two nights with my parents that were visiting from Germany. The place is wonderful. The interior and decorations are outstanding. We loved it.

It's just a short drive outside Fredericksburg city center.

Unfortunately the barn is right by the street so ther is some traffic noise.

We'll be back!

Nice historical and remodeled barn which was beautifully decorated. Enjoyed being out in the country and traffic. We enjoyed the lovely and delicious German pastries delivered to the back porch in the morning. The porch swing and outdoor chairs provided a great place to enjoy the beautiful Texas sunsets. Very affordable!

Our recent stay at Rocking Ox was truly an escape from our busy schedules.  We enjoyed our stay and will certainly return again.  We felt right at home.  We chose to cook-out each evening rather than eating in town.  We spent much of our time on the porch swing, enjoying the birds singing. There were 4 of us, me, my husband, brother and sister in law.  Looking forward to our next visit

We decided on a get-away weekend on Friday morning, so I tried to find an affordable, available rental for Friday-Sunday. The booking company had this one available, and I was told at that time that it sat ON the highway and the traffic noise was loud. Since it was so last-minute, my expectations were fairly low but boy was I in for a pleasant surprise! This converted barn is just lovely!! Clean, spacious (for a couple), and affordable, it's just far away enough from the bustle of Main St. to offer some much-needed seclusion but still a 3 minute drive away from all the activities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite the highway traffic noise (which was kind of loud, I will admit).  I particularly enjoyed my long, midnight soak in the claw-foot tub after our 6 hour drive. We each popped a couple of Tylenol PMs and slept like babies; woke refreshed to a platter of German pastries and hot coffee.

Been to this B&B on several occasions and have really enjoyed it.  Lots of unique things to see.  Love the animals.  Decor is superb cowboy country.  Continental breakfast was very nice.   Was my husbands first trip there and he enjoyed all the critter characters.  We had a great time.  We definitely would return.

Excellent Place to Stay

Noisy but nice

Serenity escape from the day to day busy work schedules!

I came with two friends for a girls getaway weekend. While the remodeled barn was cute and clean, we ALL had trouble sleeping because the beds are a stone throw away from the highway. It's very, very loud and all three of us woke up at least an hour earlier than we intended to due to the noise.  There's also zero insulation between rooms so we were able to hear each other get up during the night to use the restroom or wake up early to make coffee. 
The bathroom is spacious with a large walk in shower, but not enough hot water for three people to take a turn bathing. The third person to shower on both days got stuck with cold water (and that was with the first two people turning down the hot water while they lathered up). 
We enjoyed the privacy of a cabin and really do like how the barn has been remodeled, but are not likely to return due to the fact that one of our number one reasons for going away for the weekend was to get some much needed rest, and that didn't happen. 
If you decide to visit, pack your earplugs and you'll be fine!

Way too much noise

The very quaint refurbished  barn was beautifully done. The wash tub sink brought back memories from my childhood. The king bed is very comfortable. We had to get away from the San Antonio fireworks. Our little dog is terrified. It was very cold on New years eve. We could not get enough heat. My husband took the filter out which had not been changed in months. With todays allergies and the $$$ is was costing for the machine to work so hard we were in shock. Finally when the water was not hot enough
We opened the water heater closet the next morning and the extra filter was in there.
The thankfully plastic covered filter was covered in dirt so we cleaned it off and replaced the filter. By that time we were cranky from no sleep and decided to go home. It was a real disappointment, The rolls were just 2 rolls you could by at any HEB so after all the Hype it wasn't much to write home about. So we were gone from home for 22 hours and 5 hours was driving. The road noise it absolutely horrible
 l Knew it was next to a highway but I had no idea how bad it was and we would not be able to sleep. I know for a fact this is a top of the line company I stayed there 20 years ago on main street and it was perfect. Not sure what is happening at Rocking Ox.
