4 of us called in on the off-chance today of having a carvery. We were certainly not disappointed, in actual fact, the complete opposite. The meat and veg were all freshly cooked, piping hot and delicious. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. We had more than enough on our plates - at £8 each that was an absolute bargain. Well done The Cardinals Hatt!!

Went to The Cardinals Hatt on the off chance to get a roast. We were welcomed by Kerry who was very polite and very helpful. Myself and partner explained we hadnt booked, but were shown to a quiet area in the bar area. Everything seemed spotlessly clean. Nothing was too much trouble for her and her team. The carvery was amazing, not only was there loads of food to choose from, but it was absolutuly delicious. Will definitely be going again.

I was cautious after reading some of the reviews on here, but I stayed for 4 nights. My room/bathroom was very clean, nicely stocked with teas and coffees. The bed was comfy, the blackout blind a bonus. Free WiFi which was good as I didn’t have the best signal. The grounds are kept lovely, and I liked that I could sit outside with my cuppa in the morning sun and not have to go down stairs or a lift.  All the staff that I interacted with were friendly and helpful.  It was also quite easy to get to on public transport, if you ask bus driver nicely they stop directly outside 😀

We put up a couple of friends here when they visited from up country. Neither could say a bad word about the food or accommodation. 

On their last night with us, we all stayed for food (which was delicious!). Staff are friendly and the venue is clean and clearly well loved.

Its a shame its a good 40 minutes from us usually as I'd love to be able to visit more!

3 weeks ago my wife went to the Cardinals Hatt with a friend and had a very nice Brie, Bacon and Cranberry sandwich with garnish and fries which she really liked. So we returned on Wednesday and the sandwich menu had changed quite a bit and was not as good value. The main from the specials board was nice, but I was very disappointed that the children's menu was £8.50 and consisted of 2 standard sausages, a few chips and peas, followed by 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream. Very expensive for a 3 year old. The staff were very attentive and friendly but the restaurant would, I believe, benefit from a bit of background music to improve the atmosphere.

Nice meal but overpriced child's menu

We had pre-booked and pre-ordered but service was very slow, event though we had ordered in advance. The food, when it arrived was tasty ... but my overall star rating is reduced because of the slow service. For example,  my dish was served first, but I had to wait a good fifteen minutes for everyone else to get served. I gave up waiting and started my main course but by then, it had started to go cold - never a good thing with risotto!

There was an even longer break between the main course and the dessert. The poor chap serving us was run ragged and was very apologetic. Not his fault. More staff would have helped. In spite of this, we still had a good evening.

Service a bit slow, food good

Carvery was mediocre. Lukewarm, bland and a limited vegetablr selection. Stuffing and Yorkshires from a packet. Lighting in the restaurant is poor - could hardly see to eat.  Far better places to eat, won't be returning.

Disappointing

Lunch with twelve friends.

On arrival no one seemed to care if they had customers or not.

We saw ourselves to a table which had been reserved for our party and occasionally someone came along to see if we were still there.

The service throughout followed the same vein and I have no desire to visit again.

PS The food wasn't too special either!

Lunch with friends

I had to book a couple of chalets for myself and a colleague for an overnight stay.  Check in was nice and easy, staff on reception were lovely - friendly and helpful.  BUT, they didn't tell us what time breakfast was from/check out time etc.  
The chalets were shockingly bad - from dirty windows to cobwebs around the front doors, security lights that didn't work / front door handles that were flimsy and obviously easy to break into.    
The bedroom itself was ok, but it faced onto the carpark and other chalets so I had to keep the curtains closed whilst changing and getting ready.  The facilities within that room were poor - no basics like a telephone/hotel info/hairdryer/iron etc.  Fortunately I brought my own hairdryer so was able to share it with a colleague in the next chalet.  The main power socket under the dressing table did not work so it was diffucult to dry hair etc.  There was a storage room at the back of the chalet between the bathroom and toilet which was walled off internally but the door was at the rear.  This door had not been secured so during the night continually banged against the wall meaning that I got little or no sleep. Bedroom wndow was broken so once opened proved impossible to close.  As a lone female in that chalet I felt vunerable as a result. 
In the morning we went to the main building for breakfast.  No one there to meet us & check we were residents. Only menu available was wine list!  Cooked breakfast good value, considering all other problems.   Clearly in need of a major overall all round!

Faulty Towers lives on in Saltash!

We stayed here for one night. On arrival, they tried to charge us again. We explained that we’d alresdy paid through booking.com and apparently this had happened around 10 times that week. The room seemed basic but adequate for the price we paid. We ate in the bar area of the restaurant. The food was really lovely but the service was very slow, we waited ages to order and for the starter to arrive. It wasn’t that busy either. But it was a nice clean and cosy place. On further inspection our room wasn’t, unfortunately. When we got back we discovered the radiator wasn’t working and there was a little plug in heater that blew horrible hot air. Toilet and bathroom was clean although the bath was very very old with lots of permanent stains and scratches on. There were no blinds in the toilet or bathroom. I woke up in the middle of the night freezing and with a sore back. The chipboard wallpapered wall the bed was against was like ice ( the bed had no headboard). Bed was quite uncomfortable. In the morning I tried to have a shower but there was no hot water, only from the sink tap. Luckily we were heading home anyway. One of the staff mentioned the place is getting refurbished and they have done a lovely job with the restaurant and bar but the accommodation was very poor. It was only £45 for the night but even for that you’d expect hot water and a headboard at least.
