Hotel very dated. Paper on ceiling of our room hanging off in places.  Door to bathroom could do with a clean or repaint. Floorboards very squeaky. Our room (8) was above the lounge and was quite noisy with noise from the lounge and road. Was a little concerned to see mouse bait box under the bed. 
In saying that bedding and towels were clean. Staff lovely, breakfast lovey.

Easter weekend 

The hotel, provides all the requirements needed to enjoy what Oban can offer you. Clean rooms, outstanding views, friendly staff, good breakfast...Best relation quality/price to be found in the place (It is a bit outdated regarding decoration...But by far all the outstanding points highlighted before overpass that fact

I cannot understand the poor review balance

It was awful! The room was more than tired! There was mould in the shower. The kettle had to be plugged into the wall on the floor under the bed! The bed was a cheap pine frame with a hard mattress - painful on the bones! The tv is smaller than a computer monitor!

Horrible Place - Not a hotel!

I am a massive fan of Fawlty Towers. This was the long awaited missing 13th episode and did not disappoint. Fantastic views and location to start from. Staff were very friendly but just about everything became an hourly game of trying to find the next fault, for the entertainment value alone. It all started from being unable to find the main entrance (no signage). Then the confusing lobby, still
using a guest log book (it works but we have computers now).  Then came the rooms..  straight out of a time machine, just missing Bill and Ted’s phone box.  The journey to the room was fraught with danger, via dangerously wobbly balustrades and bannister supports, not unlike Hogwarts .  The hallway had signage but no clear direction, leaving many confused guests asking us for help in a hotel they could not leave eat your heart out hotel California).  The door handles would have not looked out of place in a 1920s Art Deco dance hall. Upon reaching our room, an unpleasant chemical aroma, not unlike a cheap Lidl air freshener mixed with nuclear waste fallout, greeted (and destroyed) our olfactory senses for the entire evening.  Next up was the bacolite radio on the wall which turned out to be the room service machine. Was too scared to touch it in case it fell apart.. not that room service would have occurred as I could only see one member of staff and the lobby equipment had years of dust on it anyway... Poor girl was running around and pretty sure needed meds to keep her at her out of the park energy levels.  The bed linen was admittedly very clean, but adding a sheet to the broken mattress was akin to laying a table cloth on a bed of nails. One of the best worst nights I’ve ever had. The bathroom was the pièce de la resistance though.  Toilet seat was not representative of the a-typical U.K. derrière size, nor did it match the shape of the main pan.  Just as well as the toilet paper was thin enough to see through..  assuming it could be pulled off the wall as the roller was virtually impossible to free from the 25 degrees wall position!  The bath had 1970s overtures with flowered ‘stickers’, possibly to cover up the extensive lime  scale. On the plus side, there was a working heated towel rail with clean towels.. unclear if this met H&S standards though so stuck with the cold, wet option and air dried.  In the main room, very dated furniture, oddly placed sockets including one so high on the wall it was impossible to reach and more unfathomable as to its intended purpose!  The convector heater and clothes horse would not have looked out of place in a 1920s antique shop but were the only functioning equipment in the room that we could find whilst laughing. Even made friends with a fellow resident who was eager to share her even funnier experiences later that evening.  Watch out for episode 14 from her.

Not Bill and Ted’s excellent adventure

The only positives were the sea view and shelter from the elements. Some staff were very helpful but not all. Most bizarre hotel experience ever.  Old mismatched furniture, toilet broken tv not working, no shower gel or soap, hot water tap not working, old beds with springs poking through, flat pillows,, dull lights and depressingly dingy room. Ordered breakfast but discriminated against because of my disability so asked for a refund (solicitor now instructed) Harridan of a woman shouted me down when I explained she was breaking the law and publicly humilitated me.  This hotel simply doesn’t care because they take money upfront and don’t expect repeat business.  The guests who have written good reviews must either be friends of the owner or have extremely low standards and don’t mind staying in a hovel. Do not stay here unless you are desperate

Only stay if you are Desperate

Let’s start with the good . The view from this hotel is stunning, it doesn’t matter if your in your bedroom, the dining room or parts of the bar. 
The staff are absolutely diamonds and will do anything they can to help. 
The breakfast is preordered the night before which doesn’t suit everyone but we didn’t mind at all.  We both had the cooked breakfast which was excellent. Good quality tasty produce and not a spot of grease to be found.
Bad points .. .. the hotel is very tired. The bedrooms are poorly decorated and the beds are poor quality with paper thin mattresses . The shower is not much bigger than a telephone box and lots of bits coming away from the wall. The sinks seem to be mainly in the bedrooms.
Friday night seems to be sing along night which echoes round the bedrooms and no good if trying to sleep. Not sure if we would stay again , trying to decide if the good out weighs the bad.

Without doubt, the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Room 10 was a delight of 1970s decrepitness topped with some bang up to date noise, topped with the damp infused smell of urine. Add to that the EXTREMELY loud staff who shout constantly.

The bathroom was disgusting, the bed was ancient and collapsed, the tiny TV didn’t work and there was no Wi-Fi. 

The service of food and drink was hilariously calamitous and equally slow. 

There was nothing to redeem this place. 

Awful Awful Awful - IMO

Reviews on here are a bit harsh. Hotel was one of the cheapest anywhere in the area so didn't expect luxury. But I got a great night's sleep, friendly staff, amazing location and great breakfast all for a great price. I would certainly come back


Good value for money

worst hotel i have ever stayed in, i cant believe some of the reviews , they  cant have ever been passed the scottish border ,do they know there is another world out there .where was the pool and the furniture was from 1960

Another fabulous stay at The Lancaster the staff are so welcoming and friendly and we look forward to our next visit in the near future. We can also recommend Cuan Mor and Rio restaurant. We have been to The Wee Wine Shop which was educational.
