We booked 2 rooms for 3 adults and 15 months baby it cost us 140 pounds per night through booking.com that wasn’t problem than I noticed another 200 pounds extra been taking from my account I have been trying to call the hotel to see what was that for nobody answer the phone so I called booking.com and they told me is just Deposit and I will get it back within week 3 weeks  and nothing happened 4 weeks later I got reply saying that the proprietor said we left the hotel 1hr 30 min late and we left dirty nappies in the bin and brought food to the hotel so we can’t get the 200 pounds back, all this is nonsense before we left the rooms mealy 1 hr before check out we didn’t bring food to the hotel because we ate outside and we can’t take the  dirty nappies home with us and that why they hire house Keepers to clean after the guest,,

This was a last minute booking when Oban - a lovely town - was very busy and I can honestly say that this was the worst looking place in the whole town. On arrival, we were faced with something looking like a derelict drug den and I'd have feared for my safety from the structure of the building itself, never mind the nocturnal visitors it might attract.
None of that was relevant in the end because we couldn't get hold of anyone on the phone who claimed to own it and the instructions to pick the keys up from the Palace Hotel were way down the confirmation e-mail which I confess to not having noticed.
Having found alternative accommodation, I set about trying to see about a refund, even if it was just a partial one. £80 a night for a place like this!
I did eventually manage to speak to a man a few days later who was dismissive of my situation and he didn't admit to being the owner, so he advised me to e-mail them which was to an e-mail address which doesn't appear to exist.
So, I'm out of pocket, annoyed that I didn't read any reviews about the place and equally annoyed that others might fall into the same trap. If I were the sort of person after retaliation, I'd throw a brick through the window but that wouldn't really make the place look any worse.
Avoid this place at all costs and think carefully about using the Palace Hotel which appears to be under the same ownership.

The worst example of a guest house imagineable

Stayed for 1 night.. You have to pick the keys up at the Palace Hotel up the road. Paid the £70 required for the room. All was well, cannot fault the actual accommodation but BEWARE was charged a further £200! When we finally managed to contact the Palace about this the woman said they always take the £200 deposit, we were obviously unaware of this. The money is supposedly going to go back in the bank 7 to 10 days? Incidentally we used Booking. Com and have never been charged twice anywhere else, hope this advice help s future bookers...

Unexpected expensive deposit!!

They took 2 nights + £200 'deposit' which took 7 days to get back, then I find out they took another £40 (1 nights stay) AFTER i had left and I now have to try get it back but there's never anyone there to help. I would recommend everyone avoid this business altogether, they also own & run The Palace hotel in Oban.

Shoddy, poor, rip off.

Clean and fresh room. It was not a big room though, so for the 3 of us not that much space. Also, it was old fashioned. That doesn't matter of course, but an old mattress doesn't sleep to well. We found it to be 'bumpy'. Area is fine, supermarket and restaurants at walking distance, as well as ferry and train station.Because Hotels.com gives you the price without VAT, you might feel that it is value for money. But if you calculate what you've really paid per night, it isn't. Sorry. For me a lesson: beware of on site including and the other excluding VAT.

Clean room, but not value for money

Of course, demand determines the price, but what is being offered here is simply a pledge! For more than 60€ per person in the double room, a decommissioned property with shower and toilet is being offered! The price does not include breakfast or towels!

Get your fingers off me!

After we picked up the key at the Palace Hotel and found the accommodation, we first suspected a misunderstanding. The price was not in any way relative to the accommodation (breakfast not included in the price). The door to the room could not be fully opened because the very narrow double bed filled about 70% of the room. 2 people plus 2 suitcases and the room was full. The window could not be closed so that it could not be opened from the outside without more. A refrigerator was decorative in the corner - unfortunately closed. For a key we probably had to pay an extra price. The only highlight: the bathroom.

Ridiculously overrated

1.	Decide 10.30AM Thursday to go to Oban and spend the night as it was a glorious day. Looked online with “booking.com” which has always been reliable in the past and booked Glanavon as it had two beds and available (now know why).
2.	We had to pick up the keys from the Palace Hotel but there was no instructions where it was or the post code or address.
3.	We found the hotel & collected the keys to be told the breakfast we had booked  was continental which was not on the website and at £10.00 each was not only disappointing but we felt wrongly described. We were assured the hotel owner was out buying the breakfast items and we were assured that it was a great spread and really good value. As it had been paid for we accepted but in retrospect should have cancelled and gone out in the morning for a proper breakfast.
4.	On arriving at the Glanavon bungalow we were dismayed to find it was an empty bungalow with 3 let rooms and it smelt damp and was dingy even the front letter box was hanging off the door by one screw? We were told they were waiting for the decorators but some of the Trip Advisor reviews from September 2010 STATE THE SAME COMMENT?? The ceiling wallpaper was badly discoloured and the strips were hanging from the ceiling and the walls were also discoloured giving the room a NOT pleasant atmosphere. The bedroom basin surround was dirty and needs grouting. NOT WHAT WE HAD EXPECTED!
5.	There was only the double bed made up when we arrived and we could not find the linen and duvet, but when we asked we were told that 2 people make a couple and only need one bed. This is not so as two ladies or two men could be on a trip or as is the case I turn a lot in my sleep so we had booked the room as it had two beds. We were told where to find the linen and make it up ourselves. Good service?
6.	We also did not expect an empty bungalow but a comfortable occupied home and although it stated there was a shared bathroom, did not expect it to be shared by three rooms and it was like and old Blackpool B&B.
7.	We also found out there was only one hand towel and if you wanted a bath towel and shower mat it was another £7.50 and another EXTRA charge to park in the driveway. On principle we did take up either offer.
8.	We nearly came home but decided to stick it out for the one night and went out for dinner and were SHOCKED TO COME BACK TO FIND A JUG EACH OF ORANGE JUICE AND MILK IN THE FRIDGE ALONG WITH A TESCO SEALED PACKET OF GREEN OLIVES AND A £1.25.00 PACKET OF TESCO GAMMON WITH 2 SMALL BABYBELL CHEESES, A PACKET OF OATCAKE BISCUITS, SMALL BUNCH GRAPES, 6 SOFT RASPERIES, 2 PLUMS PAST THEIR BEST, 2 SMALL TUBS YOGART, 4 WHEAT BISCUITS BUT NO CORNFLAKES OR CEREAL, AND 2 GRANOLA BARS. This was the great value feast? 
9.	This was to eaten in our dingy bedroom at a tiny collapsible table with only one low soft chair so we had to eat it sitting on the bed. There were only two SMALL cups about ¼ the size of a normal breakfast cup and two teabags. As the cups only made a ¼ cup and as we each wanted tea we ended up with hardly any each. There was a tea tray with kettle in the room but it was not included and as we were extremely upset did not use it as I felt there were too many things extra that should have been included.
10.	The only good thing I can report is that when we found the linen for the single bed we found all of it to be clean.
11.	The room fridge was stuck on top of the dressing table leaving little room left.
12.	I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT IN MY OPINION I MADE A BIG MISTAKE AND HAVE PROMISED MYSELF TO CHECK MOE CAREFULL IN FUTURE AS IT WAS NOT AT ALL WHAT WE EXPECTED AND IT WAS DEPRESSING, NOT WHAT WE BOOKED FOR. I ALSO THINK THEY BADLY MISREPRESENTED THE BREAKFAST AND THEIR WEBSITE DETAILS SHOULD BE CHANGED TO REFLECT THE ACTUAL CONDITIONS WE FOUND THERE. Another Trip Advisor review response tells us that the son lives upstairs and they keep the best rooms for the visitors, SORRY SON what you have to live in!

had a last minute appointment for work in Oban. A place I love. found what looked like a bed and breakfast, ( it pays to read all the relevant details.)  In fact this was a house owned by the Palace Hotel. Guilty in the fact that I never read all the details when I printed my receipt off. so Arrived at what looked like an abandoned home. phoned the Palace Hotel, was told the fact you had to collect the keys was on the receipt. Collected the keys, I think there were 4 rooms for rent, all sharing the same toilet/shower room. if you wanted Towels, it was £7.50 per night. Luckily as a frequent traveller for work, I keep towels and other thing, in a compartment in the boot of the car. the bed was so uncomfortable I could hardly sleep. for breakfast you have to go to the hotel. 2 nights bed and breakfast £206. Never again.
