After having been taken over in June this year, the new owners are offering great value Accomodation and food. It’s clearly got a bad reputation but in my experience it’s Accomodation is more than comfortable and food was excellent. 

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOW UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT .... The previous tenants have finally left!
The Tree, (or as it's currently known as the Bluebell) is back under new (or actually the original) management, having taken it back after the previous tenants pretty much trashed the place. I can't comment on the accommodation but I can comment on the fantastic Steak & Ale pies my friend and I had today. Plus the lovely, friendly staff and the roaring fire. It will slowly get back to what it was before, so do go back, if you've visited in the last few months and vowed never to return. I'm looking forward to when they get their old Sunday lunchtime crowd back. I will be back again soon.

Fantastic Steak & Ale Pie!

Well we were the first guest after this young couple took over, check in was good the place was clean, a few repairs to worn out carpets etc but I'm sure they will get there, the room was warm and clean, excellent bathroom and facilities, no facilities close so best using the well priced bar/resturaunt all in all a very pleasant stay......and good luck to you both in the future

Used to be "The Tree"

When we arrived we were given the keys at a very makeshift reception, on trying to open the door I had to admit defeat but after some help from the manager (I think) I realised you had to be Mr Universe and risk breaking the key. As we had to go straight out to meet family we returned about 8.30, we had noticed there was only one bedside light that did not work, the bathroom was like something from the 1970s but when the wife flushed the toilet it filled up and smelled badly of sewerage. On asking for another room it was quickly given but with no offer of help to move us up stairs. The second room was identical, certainly spacious the light inside the door by the wardrobe did not work, we had two bedside lights this time but one did not work, the carpets were stained and the so called quilt on the bed was certainly for a smaller bed. The bathroom again was from the 1970s a good size white bath and nice counter top with sink, the toilet was pink with the cheapest white seat That I have ever seen and the extractor did not appear to work as the first room. The supply of hot water was good and the furnishings were reasonable. All in all the rooms are a good size, they need new carpets, beds, and something must be done with the bathrooms. Service - There was none.

Very disappointed and left early.

Well that was a strange experience! Drove down from Scotland and told them we would be arriving quite late. At around 7:30 we had a rather austere Eastern European lady phone us to demand 'are you coming?'. Arrived c8.45, checked-in and immediate nipped out for a meal (the in-house bar and restaurant was empty and shut up). In the intervening 15 mins the grumpy lady on reception had been replaced by another young lady, this time wearing pyjamas!!

The bedroom was tired but functional, although furniture and carpets were strained. The bathroom had tired 1970s style fitting that needed ripped out 20 years ago. There was black mould up the sides of the shower.

At night they seemed to shut off the heating and myself, and my buddy in the neighbouring room, were cold all night. We went to check-out around 8pm, which is a pretty typical time for business hotel checkouts. No staff were around and the reception was locked so we could not deposit our keys. The restaurant and bar were also shut off but the security provisions extended to a chair strategically placed in  front of the door. We pushed the chair to the side, wandered through, tripping the alarm, and placed our keys at the reception desk. Even then nobody appeared. 
I can’t really say the service was appalling, as there was no service. Its tired, deserted and left me feeling like I had stumbled onto the set of a low-budget remake of the Shining.
