The Mowbray Bed and Breakfast

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay here, the food was brilliant. Highly recommend.  Plenty of parking available.  The room was clean and tidy.  We explored the local area before we set off for Grantham.

Brilliant Stay

Very strange place.  It seems there are no resident staff. The owner greets one effusively then disappears off the premises, never to be seen again. It felt like the Marie Celeste. Our twin-bedded room (No. 1) was "interesting". The furniture was old stained, as in marked, and not varnished. There was no sleep to be had as the coils in both matrasses poked into everywhere one turned - and we're both well-padded! The quilt cover on my bed on the top side had blood spatter, and on the underside had stains which look like either urine or semen. (Sorry to be so graphic - I'm a retired nurse). The shower room had a cracked pine toilet seat and the closing side of the shower door had a thick coat of black mould. In an endeavour to speak to the owner the following morning about these issues, we discovered the dining room locked, as was everywhere else, and no-one at all on the premises but us. We left details of our discomfiture on the reception desk, but have had no communication from the owner. As we are not able to give this a no "dot" rating, a one has to suffice.

Abysmal!

The lady who greeted us was friendly, the beds were clean and comfy and it was a relatively good night sleep albeit the creaky beds. The bathroom needed a lot of maintenance and it can get especially noisy during the morning. Overall, that part of the stay was ok.

The pièce de résistance, the thing that stopped me from giving this place 2 stars, was the breakfast. On initial inspection it was well presented but just as I helped myself to a second slice of toast, I noticed it had MOULD on it. Yuck!!!! Never again will I book a hotel without checking TripAdvisor reviews - this taught me a valuable lesson!

Mouldy toast, anyone?

I'm afraid it was awful and I would never stay there again.  On arrival at four in the afternoon there was nobody around to check us in.  We phoned and were given the entrance code for the door and told which room we had been allocated, rather strange we thought.  After humping our luggage upstairs we found the room. The first thing my husband had to do was remove a splinter from my hand which I had got from the bare wooden staircase. Not a good start. He then inspected the bathroom facilities and said I was not to use the shower as it was filthy and it wouldn't be safe for me with my mobility problems.  The property is on a very busy road so we had to close the window making the room stuffy.  When I arose the following morning I stepped on to a soggy carpet.   Couldn't understand why but thought my husband must have been a little vigorous when washing the previous evening.  Half way through dressing there came a knock on the door.  It was very persistent so I had to open it and found a girl with a breakfast tray in her hands.  I was flabbergasted.  While eating this meal I was getting wet and was to discover the rain was coming through the ceiling.  It was so awful we had to laugh but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to fellow travellers.

Don't forget your umbrella!

Basically the worst B&B I've every come across, should be shut down. 
As previous review stated this doesn't even deserve 1 star.
Felt unsafe, it was unclean and awful! I've added some pictures,
The picture of the breakfast tray was given to us that evening for the next morning for all 4 of us, no toaster was supplied.
People were smoking drugs in the room next door to us and the smell was unbearable
lots of foreign males were walking around / loitering in the corridors, going past our room shouting etc.
A guest who had just arrived, was outside of our room refusing to stay and telling the young polish girl who let us in, that they refused to stay and wanted their money back(understandably so), she told him that the owner wasn't here but she would refund him.
Everywhere was filthy including the beds, we were given small double rooms as there were no twin rooms(which wasn't what was booked).
Bathrooms were all shared and very unclean.
No proper parking, on a busy road so no where to put your car???!
The polish girl who we spoke to on arrival said we could put our car on the grass verge outside the house...on inspection there was a sign from the council saying if you parked on the verge you'd get a £500 fine!!
Ended up checking out/walking out 1hour after arriving.
Went to stay elsewhere.
Terrible!!!!!!!!!
I never write reviews but felt it was my duty to try and prevent others from going through the same thing!

AVOID AWFUL AWFUL PLACE!!!

My boyfriend and I cycled up to Cambridge from London over the bank holiday and booked this cheapy B&B as somewhere to shower and crash!
We arrived and the lady who greeted us couldn't speak a word of English. She just showed us our room,
The bathroom and pointed at the breakfast instructions! 

We went out for dinner locally and came home to a house of noise.
We were lying in bed at 11.30
And someone sounded like they were moving in above.
Non-stop banging and scraping and shuffling. 

Then, the family opposite who own the place have been up all
Night banging doors as we all have to share a bathroom.
This was not clear on the booking form at all.
Kids up and crying at midnight and people talking at the tops of their voices.

I am writing this at almost 1am and am furious. They have also taken the money out of my account which is a disgrace! 

Nothing positive at all to report. Next time- pay the extra £40 and get a travel lodge.

(Not sure I will even bother hanging around for the breakfast!!!)
