Jiufen Hui Ming Homestay

This homestay is conveniently located just a couple staircases away from the Jiufen old street. We arrived early which gave us time to wander the streets looking for the exact location. Tip: stop frequently and look down, you'll probably see a big yellow sign with the name "Hui Ming Homestay" on it, that's where you need to go ;) 

Friendly staff, nice and cozy Japanese style room with complementary tea, coffee and toiletries. We shared a bathroom with one other room. 

At a price of 1800 TWD great value!

The host were really nice and will give all the food and attraction recommendations when you reach. They also make conversation with you and make you feel at home.

Room was pretty big. Simple and unpretentious. You can tell the bed is quite old though as the bed creaks whenever we move. Location was great and very near to convenience stores, bus stops and Jiufen old street. 

Good for its price!

it just like staying at your friend's house. we booked a room for four which normally for the hotel taiwan, the double bed for 2 people are too small but here, the bed was sooo big and I slept comfortably. 

the atmosphere in the hostel was cosy, even the owner was not fluent in English (me niether, haha) but trying to help us for giving the information. 

the hostel is a bit difficult to find as it it not located in the middle of jiufen old street but not too far with good view while walking back to the hostel.

Very homely

cosy and roomy

The homestay is located within 5 minutes walking distance from the old streets. Our stay at Hui Ming Homestay features a nice view from the room 301. The room has comfortable twin bedding and a big balcony. The stay was comfortable and check-in and check-out process is fast and fuss-free. Owner is a helpful young man and fast in responding our queries. His mom gave brief and useful information on how to navigate the old streets of Jiufen and which location have the most scenic views that features in postcards of Jiufen. However, the our room does not have an attached bathroom and the homestay does not provide breakfast. These information are well informed on their website. Just an advice, should you decide to spend 1-night in Jiufen, do book a place that provides breakfast as most eateries open at 10 a.m. Unless you don't mind getting your breakfast fix from the nearby 7-Eleven.

Decent homestay

Near old street and shopping area, quiet at night, very large room with seating area as well. The owner was very helpful and friendly. The room was very basic, but the view of the ocean was partially obstructed by the roof of the other building. You're basically renting out a room in an apartment building; it did not feel quite "homey", but met our needs for an inexpensive place.

Nice enough

My wife and I had the large, four person room, which was very roomy and nice. The shower system was primitive, just a hose/shower head on the wall in the bathroom, but at least there was hot water. Some of the lights bulbs were out, so the room was a bit dark. The biggest problem with our room, perhaps not others, was the VERY VERY HARD BED, worse than sleeping on the floor. I've slept on more comfortable park benches. My wife and I both prefer a harder bed to a softer one, but this was ridiculous. The hardest bed I've ever slept on and I've been to over 70 countries and thousands of lodgings. Neither of us barely got any sleep and were both sore and tired in the morning. I used different clothes/items to try and get settled but really to no avail. A thick cushion placed over the bed, or better, an entirely new bed, would be the best solution. Until then, I would AVOID this so-called "homestay" because it is not a "homestay" and it's not a place to get any sleep, we learned to our regret. Sleep somewhere else!
