Sandadiya Resort

We had a great time in sandadiya, very quiet and charming place near the lake. The owner and Louis are lovely guys. They propose a really good safari service to Yala national park. One of our best moment in Sri Lanka :)

As we stopped off the bus Louie approached us and asked if we would like to stay at his guest house where he would drive us for free in his tuktuk. We were apprehensive but finally decided to take a look. Lucky for us, this was the hostel we were going to head to first because it was cheap and had good reviews. We agreed a good price for the room (no food) and finally agreed on a full day safari at a good price. The room was a good size, comfortable, mosquito net had a few holes in the top which we just covered with a tshirt, the bathroom was a bit dirty with toothpaste all around the sink but we wiped it down ourselves and there was a smell for the duration of our stay, it was bearable. Tissa is a short tuktuk drive away (150LKR), we walked to the lake which is beautiful at sunset where you can take a boat ride if that takes your fancy. The safari was incredible, the driver was well connected and it was great to see how he and the tracker got so excited once we finally saw a leopard and bear at the end of the day. I suggest doing research on prices beforehand as you won't have time to check once you arrive and start negotiations straight away. You'll be told you have binoculars on the safari (we asked for 2 pairs between 5 people) but we didn't get any. There is a pool in the complex next door and we were told you could pay 500LKR to use, we didn't have time but it's very inviting. 100m walk into the local town where you can buy food, drink, nicknacks and fresh fruit stalls with coconuts sold at 50LKR each. Nice hostel, the staff were friendly. Not sure if there is ever an option to eat there.

Quiet location, great safari

Great accomodation and people. Super cheap and clean

We got talked into this place by a local arriving in Tissa. 1500 r per room. The place is quite dirty, has basic rooms and the owner doesn't speak English. It's cheap, but they try to win their loss with selling you a more expensive jeep tour. He wanted to sell HD jeep tour at 7000 r. 

Good thing: It's next to a nice hotel with swimming pool where we had lunch and enjoyed the pool for free.

Dirty, basic, cheap, but with a catch

Stayed here when we visited Tissa. The room was big, clean and with a mosquito net full of holes. We had to ask for towels and toiletpaper. The host was  very pushy and not that friendly. During our stay there was no electricity until a few hours before check out. When we asked for wifi code he said: "but it is very slow". We asked "why?" and the respond was: "because you only pay 1.000lkr for the room AND you got toiletpaper!"

So the price he had set himself including wifi, toiletpaper etc was now not good enough!?!? So strange and rude..

Fine room, bad host

Everything was clean and well maintained apart from bathrooms. The staff was friendly. Stayed only for 1 night, but it seemed really nice. Rooms are a bit minimalist though. Air conditioning didn't work properly.
