Staff friendly but accommodation awful
Despite cleaners coming in daily still same cobwebs above bed & hairs from previous guests still on bathroom floor. 
Wife bought cleaning products to clean. 
Safe lock just fell out. 
Toilet very stained 
Appartment door lock was broken. 
No hot water in basin or shower. 
Sewage smells in room from toilet. 
Wiring for lights awful.
Noisey banging at night. 
Cockroach climbing up my leg at breakfast. 
Good location. 
But despite this would never stay again. 
Needs some attention to detail especially the cleaning. 
Tv poor & at right angle on the wall. 
Real shame as maderia is lovely. 


Cheap but Very poor & not clean.

No kettle,  crockery or cutlery.  Place could do with a good clean.  Mattress could feel EVERY spring. Cleaner lovely but not very thorough.  Only saw staff at reception once. You get what you pay for

This was just awful. We couldn’t stay the night and had to go to another hotel. I knew it was cheap and basic but this was simply unpleasant. Our room had light from only the glass door to the shared terrace. The bathroom had no window. When I asked receptionist if they had anything better, she acted as if she had no idea what I was talking about. I can’t imagine the food would be worth having. Oh and the best buy was that we had one available power socket and there was no AC. I’m very doubtful about the veracity of the positive comments on here. Save your money and go somewhere nice. 

Do not stay here. The absolute pits. 

Firstly the price is excellent and for what we paid we expected a very basic Hotel however in reality the room really wasn't fit for anything apart from sleeping. The rooms are so basic, not even a kettle, hair dryer, iron etc and not especially clean so if you like to spend any time relaxing in the hotel then its probably not for you. The room was on the 3rd floor had an ant problem, the bathroom door hit the toilet so it was hard to get in and out of the bathroom and only one socket worked in the room (not near the bed)

The main issues are with customer service;

 - reception unstaffed, waited in middle of restaurant with cases for nearly 10 mins to be checked in. keys left unattended at desk, rooms not secure. never saw the desk staffed in 4 days
 - B&B does not exist!!.....every room includes a very basic breakfast (two bread rolls, jam/butter, tea/coffee). Dont pay for B&B online as you dont get anything extra than the basic included.
-when inquiring about the extra I paid for breakfast we were told to "go to the supermarket"
-Staff are generally very unhelpful, tried to borrow an iron and was told to "wait until tomorrow"
-Mis-advertised online;
      -no buffet breakfast as claimed.
      -cant eat or drink on roof terrace as claimed
      -only one on-site restaurant not 2 as claimed

Please look at the reviews for "Chanceller Restaurant" as the staff in the restaurant are the only staff in the hotel that we saw so for customer service reviews these are more accurate. We never ate here (apart from two bread rolls) but once we saw the reviews we were glad we avoided it.

So in summary the hotel is very cheap and in a great location but unfortunately is was mis-advertised and in reality is more like a hostel than a hotel and the customer service is terrible.

Much more basic than advertised. Let down by non-existent customer service.

We had a room from 3rd floor. Due to the price we weren't expecting much from the room. The location was great and there was good spots for parking our rent car during the week. Service was kind during the stay. 

Room was quite clean, only to mention that bathroom was filled with previous customers' hair and we could tell that floor was never cleaned during our stay. The showers drain was filled with hair, which was pretty gross. Towels were changed everyday and beds were made by cleaners, which was nice.

It would have been also nice to have some signs for door to skip cleaning, during couple of mornings cleaner lady came very loudly to room while we were still sleeping.

Fantastic location but average state of cleaning

We stayed here for a week in September for a great price so we weren't expecting to stay at theis little gem. Yeh the rooms are a bit dated but hey if you look beyond that  is a cracking places to stay, food was fab and the staff were wonderful they made our stay, nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of places to eat nearby and less than 5 mins to the bus stop to funchal centre and the lido was only about 5 mins away. Would defo recommend for the staff alone, well done that team👏👏👏

Little gem of a place

We stayed here for the first time. As a first impression: the sympathy of the reception when welcoming us, even if we had arrived early in the morning due to the delay in the flight; the cleanliness of the room that was flawless; our room had a balcony which was very valuable to us since in the initial reservation it did not include - a very obliging one; the sympathy of Mrs. Maria of the always pleasant and willing restaurant, and the location of the residence with us, which makes the easy commute excellent. The breakfast was pleasant, although every day was the same, perhaps you could change the piece of fruit or the type of bread, just so as not to always be repetitive. A negative point, and that the residence has no fault, is the noise that during the night becomes a little restful to the person who wants to rest, but we have to thank the audience for the superficiality - in the last case, it is all the audience who have had the sensitivity and the superficiality that we have to thank the audience for - it is not just the noise that makes it a little restful to the person who

Family and welcoming residence in the heart of Madeira.

Our son is tall, and so we were given an extra free room. The staff Maria & Bruno were caring and attentive. The rooms were big and had ocean views. There was a free safe, a fridge and a TV. We brought our own kettle. The communication was great, the bus stop is 2 minutes away. During the last day we lost a powerbank and a toiler air freshener. The towels were refreshed everyday. We recommend to renew the furniture.

Great hotel, that feels like home

The cleanliness of the rooms, especially in the bathroom, should be improved, for those who want to rest it is not ideal because it is very noisy at night, but the rest is recommended.

Opinion of the European Parliament

We booked this hotel as it was small and central. The price was amazing too! We stayed for 2 weeks and didn't have any problems. The staff, especially Bruno, were so friendly and would do anything for you. Towels changed daily. I accidentally spilt a whole glass of juice on my daughter's bed and asked them if we could have a set of bed linen telling them I would make the bed as it was my fault. The very kind lady wouldn't hear of it and made it herself.
The booking said room only but Bruno told us at check in it actually included a simple breakfast. We don't eat breakfast so didn't partake but thought this was a nice gesture.
The rooms are basic but clean and a good size. A fridge is included as is a free safe. We had a terrace which was gated and led to the communal terrace which in turn led to an upper terrace which is huge! We discovered on our last night a roof top terrace which would give amazing views.
This hotel is so central!
We walked every day to Funchal town (2 kms) and found a variety of cheap meal places.
Turning right out of the hotel and walking about 1km, you come to The Forum, another shopping centre.
About a 5 or 6 minute walk is The Lido. 
So if you don't mind dated rooms,a little rough around the edges but love a friendly, family atmosphere that only a small independent hotel can give you, book it!
