Alexanders Holiday Park

We used Alexanders as a place to do a motorhome swap with my sister, and used both an ensuite cabin and a powered site.  It is a lovely location and we enjoyed the railway running overhead. Easily accessible from State Highway 1, The cabin was spotless and the double bed comfortable, and the toilets and showers in the camp were very good also.  Antony was friendly and helpful.  We will certainly stay again when passing through Picton.

Nice place to stay.  

Comfortable room with ensuite bathroom.  Staff is friendly and helpful.  Wi-Fi is available but not free.  NZD5 for 10Gb - quite reasonable.  

The river running behind the room is very soothing.

After reading the reviews I wondered if I’d made a mistake by booking here for the night BUT we were pleasantly surprised.
We received a warm welcome by the owner.
Our cabin, the linen & the bathroom was clean and comfortable. 
The train track goes right overhead but it did not disturb us in the night. 
The cabin was quiet. We enjoyed our visit.

Tidy roomy campground in great location

One night stay before the ferry 

Very clean amenities and reasonable walking distance to ferries (1.7km) with nice, grassy sites. The facilities are quite run down and dated and there is a train line running above the park with 1-2 freight trains passing through each night. 

Okay for a short stay close to town

This campground was within in walking distance of the cbd and was easy to find.  The patron wasn't overly helpful and left me to find my own way around.  No cutlery, plates etc available, you need to bring your own.  The facilities were good.  Plenty of space in the kitchen/dining area.  Wifi is not complimentary.  Extra cost.  $20 for a night.

Nothing special about this campsite. We arrived late at night from the ferry and it was a good place to go because the check-in was super easy. The kitchen was nice and had everything you would need. It was not busy at all which was nice also. The showers had barely any pressure. I would not recommend for an extended stay, but good for a night (max. of 2 nights).

So I will be brief

This place could be good. The location is excellent, very near the ferry terminal, the grounds are spacious, you can walk into town....but im sorry to say is stops there. It is vert itred and run down, fully of nasty "Do Not" type signs. I think there are several people living there full time in very run down caravans. If you are pretty robust, then all good, but you probably best be forewarned.

If you cant say anything nice.....

Stayed for 2 nights on a powered site with my son in our camper. Booked online, and received a booking confirmation, all tickity boo, until the day we arrive to check in. Mr tough guy owner tells me “you’re one of these invalid cards” as he slams a piece of paper in front of me. This was a surprise to me, so I told him I’d just check as I thought payment was made, well Mr Tough didn’t like that! “Go on, piss off” “ you’re calling me a liar” etc etc. told him politely I was entitled to check what he was saying was correct, and never said he was lying and to please calm down ,and if so I’d pay happily (I already received a  email confirmation for my booking remember). His wife comes out and tells him to pull his head in and blames the busy season…anyway long story short, turns out the camp is still in the 1990s, there online payment isn’t online at all, it’s a manual process by the owners and the owners made no attempt to notify me before hand that it was unsuccessful due to a digit in my card number being wrong, “I’m a busy man” he said when I asked why no one contacted me… judging by the park, the state of the facilities, I beg to differ sir..

All amenities were well below standard.(Watched a gentlemen I assume works there attempt to fix a door with a roll of sellotape).

I ask the owners, if they bother to read reviews, is your heart still in it? As a lot of people are being let down by your below average standard of service and care.. 

Be better Alexander’s Holiday Park.

Owner is a muppet, no communication skills.

We made an online reservation as we were arriving late from the ferry, but when we rang the owner on the day to ask him about arrangements for arriving late, he said he couldn't guarantee us a 
place - weird definition of 'reservation'. He was then incredibly rude when we tried to sort things out.

The place is also in disgusting condition with many broken/dirty appliances. 

I heard several people saying there were leaving early, despite having paid for multiple nights, because the place was so grim.

There are much better places, closer to town for the same amount of money - don't go here.

Avoid, avoid avoid

We have stayed here before and know it is a nice basic site in the bush beside a stream which allows dogs.  Great for catching early morning ferry.  We had no bedding so hired a sheet and duvet for the beds.  While on the ferry I received a phone call from the owner who proceeded to abuse me for "using the sheet as a bottom sheet which meant I had cost him $120 in dry cleaning costs for the duvet covers which equated to losing him 5 nights accommodation thank you very much" and hung up on me.  This was not the way I wanted to start my Xmas break and we will never be back and we will never recommend this place to anyone again.
