Avonhead Garden Motel

I highly recommend this hotel, as it is operated by its owners and they are the most friendly and hospitable hosts, specially Amanda. The place is immaculate.  Each suite is spacious and has a view to a beautiful garden. The kitchen is very well equipped and the bathroom is also very comfortable.They also have a free shuttle to the airport or railroad.

Charming

The Eagles Golfing Society had their National Convention and Annual Golf Tournament in Canterbury this year Feb 23-26. As a group if 14 from Tasman, it was recommended by our President (a Company Sales Representative who travels to Christchurch very regularly) that we should base ourselves at Amanda and Gary’s Establishment as our Official Venues were at the Addington Raceway just 10 minutes away, and the 4 Golf Courses we were to use near the airport McLeans Island, Coringa, Templeton, and Harewood were  also less than 15 minutes away even in our “rush-hour” - be there at 8.20am timeslot!!  
Everything worked beautifully- my wife and I were arriving late on Sunday night - no problem! Amanda was there to “meet and greet” and show us to our rooms as Gary directed us to one of the easily accessible parking spots.
When we needed to get to our Meeting ( an hour ahead of our spouses ), Amanda ran us down to our avenue without question or charge.
There is a Cafe and restaurant area not far away (5 mins walk ) with great fish and chips - cheapest I’ve seen in years, and the Lone Star Bar and Restaurant a slightly longer walk (15mins) for other casual dining, so very central in that regard.
The Courtyard area compliments the outlook from each of the rooms beautifully, with strategic plantings still ensuring individual Privacy, and we were able to congregate fairly unobtrusively around picnic tables of an evening and go over the day’s activities and plans for tomorrow..
The amenities were presented in a very clean and professional manner to a high standard with kind people at the helm...
Everything we wanted and wished for at very reasonable price - we will definitely be back and encouraging others to do so ( no, I’m not related but do travel a lot ..)

Eagles Golf Convention 2020

Such a wonderful place to stay. Amanda and Gary are very accommodating and welcoming hosts who are helpful with information and suggestions for places to visit and routes to take.
The rooms are modern, clean and very welcoming with lots of little extra touches. 
The units overlook the beautiful garden with outdoor settings for guests to enjoy. Overall, a very warm and wonderful ambience.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay and would definitely stay again.

Wonderful Stay

The room was very comfortable with nice amenities. I enjoyed the leather reading chair, especially. The bed was comfy, and everything was clean and in good condition. There is a very nice coffee shop just up the street got a nice cup of coffee and or hearty breakfast.

A good room with a Very pleasant setting

We have been in NZ for a couple of weeks and have been staying at Holiday Parks and motels and they have all been great but the Avonhead is a real gem. We were warmly greeted by Amanda who gave us a bunch of suggestions on what to do during our short stay in Christchurch. She even offered to drive us to the pub for dinner so we wouldn’t have to drive.
Our room was beautiful and clean with personal touches including flowers and a Christmas tree and treats for our teenage daughter. It has a real kitchenette with 4 burner stove and an oven and full utensils.The motel is arranged around a courtyard with gardens and trees and it gives a real sense of privacy and seclusion.They have a single golf hole in the middle of the courtyard with an ongoing hole on one putting contest to win $20 (my wife was close).
We were overdue on laundry and they have a great and inexpensive laundry facility.
Although we are continuing south this would be a great place to stay for a few days and it is about 15 min from the airport.

Best Hotel on our trip

This place is amazing. Beds are super comfy, room is very modern and beautifully decorated, shower pressure is great and the location is pretty good. Very well kept garden outside of the rooms which makes this place into a peaceful paradise. Felt very refreshed after relaxing in the garden for the afternoon, reading my book and enjoying a cuppa. Keep noticing all these other little extras. Have lots of fresh flowers in my room from their garden. The owner Gary who checked us in was friendly and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended, we will definitely come back here!

Wish we could stay longer!!

We were very pleased we chose this accommodation for our five night stay. The unit was spacious,  clean and really comfortable.  The hosts were incredibly kind and caring.  It is wonderful to think that their  guests get to experience good kiwi hosting. Well done Amanda and Gary and once again thank you. 

Amazing hosts Great accommodation 

Gary and Amanda are fantastic hosts and really went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable and homely.

The beds are comfortable, rooms are warm, internet is fast and available and the units are big enough to make an extended stay comfortable.

The cherry on the cake is ample parking so no need to park on the street.

I would recommend Avonhead Garden Motel with a real 5 star rating.

Stayed at Avonhead Garden Motel for 4 weeks while relocating

This would have to be the best stay we have had. Gary and Amanda were excellent hosts. Stayed for a hot rod event and had garage parking for all the rods, Hot Cross buns on arrival and had a lovely clean and tidy 2 bedroom unit that over looked the beautiful garden, with fresh flowers in our rooms. Easter Bunny left eggs outside our unit on Easter and Amanda dropped everything to deliver all the rodders staying there to the venue. A couple of the guys had to wait and she appeared with freshly cooked pikelets  while they waited. They both went over and above and it was greatly appreciated by us all. Definitely stay again and highly recommend to anyone visiting Christchurch. Great locality too, handy to most things. Thanks So much Gary and Amanda xx

The Best Motel Ever

Had a wonderful stay at the Avonhead Garden Motel. Private off street parking for the Hot Rods. Arrived late Thursday Easter weekend to be welcomed.  Easy check in and then taken to our lovely warm unit.  Then lovely warm hot cross buns we're bought to us to enjoy.  Easter eggs found outside our room on Sunday. Provided drop off to function venue for us all.   Very friendly, welcoming hostesses.  Would definitely be back to stay there next time we travel to ChCh.
