We stayed at the Hotel Purmerend immediately following a two night stay in a 3* Amsterdam hotel situated near Centraal Station and have to say that the Hotel Purmerend was superior in all respects and definitely excellent value for money being literally half the price of the Amsterdam hotel. 
In terms of particulars, the room size was much larger and was well appointed with a range of toiletries supplied and more than adequate storage space. The reception staff were friendly and efficient and the breakfast was excellent with a choice of meats, cheese, breads as well as hot food and cereals.
The half hourly 305 bus to Amsterdam Centraal is just a five minute walk away; the journey time being around 30 minutes at a cost of €6.50.
The next time we visit Holland we shall definitely stay at the Hotel Purmerend.

Great value for money, good breakfast and facilities.

The staff checked in and were constantly impertinent a payment made by the hotel was not found but made as if it was our fault, etc etc etc In the house construction work, noise, craftsmen in the room without knocking, absolutely horrible

Amazingly confused...

To date we have written 3 letters to different address of The Van de Valk group to complain about the behaviour and manner of the male receptionist. 

I will not go into detail suffice it to say that I had to ask him to stop berating me so that I could actually say something. 

We were also exceptionally unhappy with a room a member of our party was offered. On the day the temperature was 31C. The exceptionally large window had been in the full sun all afternoon. The curtains were open but the windows were closed. The room was impossibly hot. The manager said that it was not an air conditioned hotel and that the person occupying the room should open the window. I tried. It took some force to lift it but it slid straight down.

These are serious complaints. I invite Van de Valk to respond to this report with an address to which I can write. Obviously it needs to be directed to a representative above the level of manager of the hotel.

Very clean room, great location, close to the bus line to Amsterdam and very pleasant staff in short a great stay! The hotel is quiet the breakfast is plenty. We were very well informed. I recommend.

Very nice hotel.

It is recommended to spend one or three nights in peace.Parking, very rich snacks, salmon, succulent bread. Very attentive staff and very correct rooms with good bedding.

A good hotel to visit this beautiful Dutch region

I made a reservation on booking.com, one day before arrival I had to cancel my plans, the cancellation fees was clearly stated as 62.5 EUR ( first night), instead they charged me 125 EUR. I contacted booking.com and while waiting for the refund, I was charged again another 62.5 EUR, then shorly after another 62.5 EUR!! This is outright theft or at best incompetence! I contacted the hotel but no reply so far! They truly care for customers!

Love this place awesome hotel with  a great pool and sauna. Marion is wonderful and we will be staying a lot longer next time. Can not fault anything rooms lovely and comfrey beds amazing and even has its own on site farm with a wonderful selection of animals. Absolutely love this place thank you for making us feel so at home.

It's true that it's a good price, but the cleaning should never be neglected.There were bugs, tear gas...etc. The hotel people were friendly and the service was right.We switched rooms because the shower didn't work.

I didn't like the hotel, it was pretty dirty in general, careless... even old.

After a wedding of two friends of ours we were not allowed to drive back home anymore by Dutch law so we had to find a hotel. We booked the cheapest room (room 32) and it was not hard to find out why that room was the budget room.

It was located on the second floor, on a place that looked like an attic. It was located next to the boiler room, so a lot of heat was entering the room. It felt like a sauna.

Anyways, we opened some windows and fell asleep. We both drank enough to have some good sleep in this hot, yet comfortable and clean room. Some places were a bit dusty, but this did not affect our stay.

The staff was kind and because we booked through their official website we got a free drink. 

Sleeping after a wedding

Lots of insects inside the room, outside and in the restaurant. Also its dirty. Beds are very unconfortable (quite used and soft)... bath was not clean. We change the room due to the shower was not working properly, initial room had not got air conditioning, and was even worst. Stairs very small to go with suitcases. Breakfast is not good at all. Parking and staff were ok.
