The Flying Pig Downtown Youth Hostel

This was mine and my husband's first time staying at a hostel and we couldn't have had a better first experience! We didn't spend much time at the hostel because of course we're exploring beautiful Amsterdam. The time we were there was great! The place incorporates a laid back atmosphere but with excellent hotel standards. All of the receptionists were friendly, easy to chat to, attentive and professional. I really felt looked after by them and kept being surprised at how much they have thought of everything you might need for your stay. They really understand the backpacking clientele! The showers, toilets, landings and rooms were always clean and replenished (I'm a housekeeper so I notice these things ;) ) The bed was so comfortable and the bedroom sound proof from people or the music. We opted in to have the continental breakfast our entire stay and it was a good selection, easy to use and most importantly - yum! Plus plenty of comfortable seating! We didn't have much of the daytime menu except the pizza and beer deal and both were yum to! I love the whole design/ look of the place! E.g the windmill themed rooms, touches of funny pig quotes and pictures everywhere and the beautiful art in the bar. As well as all of the above, what made my stay perfect was meeting people from all over the world and where it's located. I loved that we were in walking distance of the museum square and the town but not in the centre of it. Instead it's right next to the beautiful Vondelpark. This was so peaceful with the tamest wildlife I've ever seen! Thankyou so much The Flying Pig for making us feel so welcome and a great stay. It has been the highlight of the year so far and can't wait to come back.
