Akasha Hostel

The hostel is close to the beautiful historic centre with many things to do in the immediate area and outside of the city limits. I spent a week in this great hostel in a beautiful old building - high ceilings and lovely outdoor areas gives the place a lovely airy feel. The dorms were clean, comfortable and spacious and the common areas were ideal to chill out and enjoy the beautiful decor, reclining chairs and hammocks. The kitchen was excellent and free breakfast is offered every morning!

Special mention to the excellent staff and super-friendly owners here - without all of their awesome information and company my stay here would not have been the same!

It was supposed to be a 2 day trip that turned into 5.  Heidi,  Greg, Tom and Ollie were completely accommodating to my uncertain plan.  I kept deciding to stay another night , and they watched my bag for me.  Ollie was incredible source for things to do in and around Merida.  He is a Cenote aficionado and guided me and 5 other  guests to several nearby Cenotes on his off days. Both times he led us to great restaurants afterwords.   His input on the local music scene definitely made me dive into the nightlife.  This is the best hostel value in my dozen experiences.  The nearby ruins are a great day trip.  I did not know of Merida at all, but now it is one of my favorite all time visits.

Stayed here one night whilst visiting Merida for a conference. I've been to Merida many times and this place is perfectly located right next to the paseo Montejo, banks, restaurants (see my review of the eskondida pizzeria). The owners speak English and Spanish and we're super friendly.

For 170 pesos the rooms were clean and comfy with a bathroom attached (showers were just down the corridor) and there was air conditioning! I would recommend to choose a bed away from the air conditioner (mine was next to my bed and it woke me up a couple of times in the night with the noise) 

The price included breakfast which was amazing - there was eggs and sausages, toast, fruit and coffee with a choice of cereal! 

Would definitely stay again. 

Nice hostel. Bad wifi. Good staff. Good breakfast and kitchen space. Pack mosquito repellant - Merida has lots! Room has air con. Showers good and clean. Generally an all round good hostel. There is a hotel nearby with a great pool to relax at too!

Fantastic Hostel - Great Stay

Sweet Little Hostel, Sweet Little Town

Great location, clean rooms and wifi

Good place to crash

Cheap and more or less clean hostel that occupies a nice old townhouse in Merida. Breakfast is average but they don't refill the trays so arrive early. Even if we stayed there in late October - not the hottest month in Merida - it was still hot and the kitchen-dining room lacks enough roof fans to cool it and it is poorly lighted. The entrance hall used to have more couches in the past. They lack furniture. We stayed at the family room, which is spacious and the bed is average except for the sheets which are overused and therefore overwashed. They should get new ones. The bathroom is about what you get at a hostel. The problem is that you have to seat in the wc sideways to avoid hitting yourself with the basin. The mirror is placed in a corner so you cannot see yourself. They have a common area nice back yard to seat and relax. But be preventful to avoid being eaten by ants and other bugs. Except for a gentle man from Uruguay, the rest of the staff lack basic guests courtesy. Front desk employee and a man that might be the owner, are hardly kind with visitors. The man likes to occupy the common area corridor's seats to smoke. Quite disgusting. 

Cheap, average hostel in a nice old townhouse

The hostel looked good at first but the bathroom wasn’t clean. There were bugs on the shower curtain which was disgusting. The shower itself wasn’t good either I could barely was my hair. The bathroom itself wasn’t clean there were insects all over the place. The beds were not good you could feel the metal spirals through the mattress. We had bruses after one night of sleeping here! The beds felt disgusting as well it was as if there were bugs in the beds as well. We changed hostel after this and went to hostel la Catedral. Which was very very good and in the city centre for the same price!
