7 reviewsI've spent a year of the last two traveling through Europe and southeast Asia, staying almost exclusively in hostels, and would have gone home after two weeks if I had to stay in hotels/motels, as the people I have met are the highlight of my travels, and as it's been some of the best times of my life, that's saying a lot. Apologies for the wordiness, but just to give you a frame of reference for my review..... Major expansion going on, new quarters are just that, new. Room: Clean, 6-bed dorm Bathroom: Mine needs a little work, for cleanliness and updating. The new ones look great. Dining/Living rooms: You feel like you are sharing someone's home, and I think you may be. Nice living room, and you have kitchen privileges. Wifi okay, if a little spotty. There is a large upstairs terrace with a great view of the ocean/sunset. Location: Less than a 5-minute walk to convenience stores, a couple of excellent local Mexican restaurants (where the locals eat, and they're really taco stands with tables and chairs - zero ambiance, wonderful food). Downtown is a couple of miles away. I left my van parked in their gated/secure driveway, and either took the bus or walked to town. The beach is a ten-minute walk. Jorge, who is probably the/an owner, could not have been a better host. He was the highlight of my Ensenada stay, as his hospitality ensured that I will be returning one day, if possible. He was very patient with my broken Spanish (and broken is giving me much too much credit), and I would go back just to improve my Spanish, as he was extremely helpful. He made carrot juice for me, and when I inquired about his juicer, he took me into town to see if he could find one like it. He also told me about two taco stands in town, both of which put the one of Anthony Bourdain/Rick Bayless fame to shame (no names here). Not perfect, but Jorge's hospitality far outweighed any shortcomings. Muchas Gracias, Jorge, estoy muy agradecido. Hasta luego.
