Fifty Six Guest House - Hostel

On Love Lane next to Love Lane Inn and 2 shops down from a new massage parlor, Casablanca was one of the more interesting hostels. They were trying to be a bit different in offering free bottled water in a wine bottle (make it look fancy) I decided to stay one more night in Penang. So I decided to try something new and this place was close enough. 28 RM with all taxes for fan room. 33 baht for air cond room. Stuff that could be improved: - I wish their price included GST tax. It was actually 28RM vs 25RM. I noticed this because I stayed at several other hostels in the area and they all quoted the full price; just felt like a cheap shot. So an air cond dorm would be 33RM - the fan mixed dorm is on the street side, so the noise from the bar/karaoke below could annoy you sometimes. It does help that the room is elevated on the 2nd (3rd) floor. I almost gave them 4 stars, but then I figured the extra safety measure was good idea. - the bed was squeaky. I tried to move very slowly, but that makes it worse. Just make complete movements as there is no way around the squeak unless they add lithium grease or joint grease around the squeaky areas. I'm very surprised no one has caught this yet. - locker key locks are a bit flimsy. You have to press them into the keyhole quite a bit for them to work. - leave the grilled door open during the day. They locked it when someone had to go upstairs to clean. I'm not sure if that was normal or just because he was short staffed. Fruit breakfast was good though.
