Pathoum Phone Guesthouse

I moved there from a couple of other B&Bs on the Mekong side. 

It's an old, brick building, on Kingkitsarat Road, facing across the Namkhang River, and overlooking the Bamboo Bridge.

Rooms 2 & [I think 3] have balconies.  A very relaxing way of watching the Laotian world go by, in the afternoon shade. 

Slightly tired.  Not much in the way of services. Toilets and showers are along the hall. Reception is casual, but friendly.

But I liked it.

Old-fashioned, casual; but quiet, close to centre and great views

What I love about this guesthouse is the staff is very friendly and helpful to us. The location is great since it near to night market and in the morning, just walk back and see the 'Tak Bat' ceremony. 

What I don't love is the room and toilet and so clean as we expect. Not so great if we take off the shoes and step at the floor. The feeling is so 'eeeuwwwww'

What to do, beggars can be chooser. Hihi.

Not so clean but great location

This guesthouse is in one of the best locations in town.  I understand that it is budget lodging, but all around it the properties are great!  when I pulled my covers back both night there was a lizard in my bed.  The owners are very nice.  I think they could do a lot with what they have.  Again, perfect location.

needs work!

The location is great, only a short walk from the main street. However, we payed approximately £7 a night and what we got was not to that standard. The wifi was very slow and only worked at the front, our room was unclean and we feared for a potential electrical fire based on the conditions of the plug sockets and light fittings. We have paid this amount before and got a clean room and a much better experience. Would not recommend to anybody unless you don't mind living in grime.

Bad value for money

This place looks like it could be great but is just so run down. 
The man that checked us in didn't speak much English but was very friendly and tried to help us as much as he could. We weren't told however that the gate is locked at 11pm which could have lead to us being locked out. 

The location is brilliant and looks directly on to the Nam Song river.  

The room itself was ok pretty run down but we just use it for the bed. 
Although we aren't certain what kind of bugs there were bugs in the bed which meant we had to sleep in a sleeping bag liner both nights. 
We had a ceiling fan which sounded and looked like it was about to fly off the wall but didn't actually cool the room down.  

The bathroom was full of bugs and was extremely dirty with the toilet leaking on to the floor right next to where you shower.  

The wifi didn't work apart from at the front of the hotel. 

The plug sockets in our room couldn't keep a plug in an sent sparks flying out of it. 
 
We aren't fussy and are used to very basic and cheap accommodation but I can't understand how this place has gotten such good reviews. 
You can find much much better for cheaper at the guest houses around the Ban Hoxieng area. 
I would not recommend staying here to anyone!
