Fantastic
3 reviewsI just came home from Kenya and Nairobi, where I stayed at FortyWinks with my friend. It was as great as the reviews said on Booking.com. Before booking, I was a bit concerned whether it was too good to be true. Other accommodations I had checked in this price range had a lot of issues, such as noise from the streets, or unsafe neighbourhood, so when I found this I could not really believe my luck :-) But, the reviews were accurate. It's located near the Village market, on a very nice street just off the Limuru road. Breakfast was great, cleaning was done daily and it was spotless, and the owner and all the staff are very nice and welcoming. Wifi was included and was working great. Security was splendid, both at the house, which had their own gate security, and also in the area. I am from Sweden, so it was fun to see that the Swedish ambassador's residence was two houses away on the same street. So you can imagine that we felt very safe even walking on that street in the middle of the night, with all security in this neighbourhood. By the way, during my visit I noticed that someone had put up a new review, complaining about the cleaning. I asked Barbara, the owner, about that, and she told me that they could not clean the room since they had put up the sign "do not disturb"... Kind of sad that people do like that, because this place really deserves top rating. Another thing, it was a bit tricky to find, since this street is not showing up with it's name on google maps. And it can be confused with another street with a similar name, Rosslyne, but that is located some kilometers away. Anyway, if you come from the city center, you should go on Limuru road. Just before the Village Market there is "German School" on the left side. Take the first street to the left after the German School. (To the right you'll have the main gate to Village market just up ahead). The house is located at the end of the street. Number 10. It did not say "FortyWinks" with big signs on it, but you know you are on the right street when you see the sign "Swedish Ambassador's residence", which is house no. 12. :-) Finally, it is good to know that you should pay in cash. It was not so clear on booking.com, where I got the impression that they would withdraw the amount from my credit card. But, no, cash only. Paying in U.S. Dollars or Kenyan Shillings was fine with the owner.
