Good hotel for its money nearby airport, specially if you have several hours overnight connection and do not plan to go to city. There was a problem with Wi-Fi connection, suddenly it dripped and later phone/laptop could not connect again.

Hotel nearby airport

Well, have to remember it has a beautiful room.

But the remaining parts are not good.  Hotel advertises many times about their Wifi.  There IS wifi but only on one part of the room.  When told of this problem was told they would send a modem to us.  Then they said they could not find it.

Really?

And on a Friday night the restaurant downstairs has a policy they can have entertainment throughout the hotel.  Including the living area.  And since this is the policy there is nothing hotel management can do about this.

I was told MANY times all would be fixed but nothing was.  Including the cold breakfasts in the morning.  And coffee, NO coffee machines, except in the restaurant, which was closed.

IF you travel to THIS hotel you can ALWAYS say the room is fantastic.  But this is ALL that can be said.  NOTHING more.

STAY AWAY!

Trip to Kazakhstan

My husband and I both work at Tengiz oil field and fly into Atyrau literally just to spend the night there (and continue travelling very early the next morning). 

Last week when we flew into Atyau, we found out that our company's Transit Hotel [where we usually stay free of charge] could not accommodate us. As an alternative, we thought of spending the night at Sunkar due to its proximity to the airport (and the Transit Hotel) and around 11 pm we walked up to the reception. 

Since we did not know that our company's hotel would not be available, we had not made reservation at Sunkar ahead of time. 

Receptionist tells us that they have only one room available (a single room). Since it's the only available option, my husband and I said we'd take it. Once again, all we needed was a place to sleep for about 5-6 hours. But - to our great surprise and dismay - receptionist says that the two of us are not allowed to stay in this room, since it's only meant to be used by one person!  
So we try to communicate that it's fine, we would be ok with a little discomfort, especially since we do not have a plan B. 
Receptionist then calls her boss to consult with him. 
She talks to the boss. 
Then my husband and I talk to the boss, explaining that due to force-majeure circumstances we have no place to go at 11 o’clock at night and that we would be ok to stay in a single room and sleep on a small bed just for the night.
The answer is no. 
Oh, and the person on the phone also informed my husband that the hotel does not allow any “guests of their guests” to be in the room after 11 pm. To prove that I was not a “guest”, my husband said he would show the receptionist our marriage certificate (the photo of which I have in my cell phone). That also didn’t work.  

So we had to walk away at 11:15 pm in search of a room someplace else. 

Thankfully, a newly built Sulo hotel opened its doors just a month ago.. So we walked there for 3 minutes and 5 minutes later we were able to check into a room there.

Customer service went from bad to worse

When it first opened, it was good, been going down hill ever since.

Usually doesn't have half of the items on Menu, service is extremely slow, expect 1 hour just to get a Pizza.

Prices have also gotten out of control.

There are so many much better places it Atyrau, this place would be gone by now if it wasn't right next to the airport.

Used to be good, lousy now

I have stayed in this hotel many times during crewchange since 2017. Terrible service, young untrained staff who treat the place like a youth club more than a serving hotel tat have not got a clue about quality. Kitchen is sometimes open, Sometimes they have a choice of 3 beers, but mostly no choice, sometimes you get a glass that is not broken, sometimes the elevator works to the 3rd floor but not the 2nd, but never do you get a decent breakfast, a watery omelette is usually what is served, if there are any staff there. I suppose due to the price we should not complain as it is very cheap and as the title suggests, very nasty.

Cheap and Nasty

Nothing has changed; the service is still very poor and unprofessional! Customer service is non existent and the staff require training. The ONLY reason I stayed is that it’s close to the airport as you can walk to it. If you don’t mind using taxis etc then stay well clear of this place. I will say, when it’s warm, the pizzas are very good. 

I would only recommend this hotel if you want to be in walking distance of Atyrau airport.
