Stayed here for 3 nights and experienced traditional living in Kyoto. 

The owner; Hide, recommended cafes nearby as well as Funaoka Onsen, which is a must-try if you are staying here. The neighbourhood map that Hide gives come in handy if you intend to explore the area and try out the recommendations. 
The house is clean and is located within a quiet neighbourhood. 

In addition to visiting cultural spots in Kyoto, staying in a traditional house like Nagomi complements the experience.

This is the second time to Guesthouse NAGOMI kyoto. It's still give me the silent and traditional Kyoto living experience. Mr. Hide (guesthouse owner) help me a lot regarding Kyoto marathon 2014 and we have talked about many things about marathon, it's perfect. The house is located in a quiet area, if someone need a good quality of the sleep, it's your first choice. As a guesthouse,  it offered the basic facilities for me to stay easily and conveniently. There are server tourism attractions and transportation ( 10 mins walk) in the house nearby. I think I will come here again.

Pretty nice place with traditional rooms and a really nice owner. The rooms aren't super cheap (as everything else in Japan), but they are cheaper than in other places. The guesthouse has a computer free of charge, its not centrally located, but its close to the golden pavillion and other temples.

If you want an autentic experience this is the place to stay.

our family of 4 stayed for 2 nights and experienced the authentic japanese old school home. we slept on futons.
the guesthouse is operated by a couple who has travelled around the world (their travel pictures are displayed on the walls).
if you're clumsy, you need to be careful as this house with limited space is fully stacked with appliances. 
cleanliness here is japanese standard (very clean even with the propreitor's dog sleeping inside). 
there's only one shared shower, toilet and urinoir so you may have to queue and wait in the living room to use any of them. however, funaoka onsen, a public bath, is only a few blocks away. strolling around the neighborhood and taking a bath there will add to the old school japanese experience.

old school japanese home

We were prepared for the basic facilities and generally did not mind, the infrastructure, it is simple but cute. The noise insulation problem was as described elsewhere in these reviews, acute, and earplugs were not enough to hear every activities of our neighbors. However, by far, the most disappointing aspect was the staff. We felt treated like the travelers of a low cost airline: when trying to download a map on my phone before heading out, I was told that they would not share the wifi with me if I did not consume (even though I was a guest), when asking where we could park our bikes they insisted in charging us $8/night/bike or walk 15 minutes to a public parking (when they had plenty of spaces). Plenty of nice hotels in kyoto, this
