Cliff House Hotel

We had an opportunity to spend a night in this very special setting and truly loved the experience. A leisurely, sun-drenched lunch on the terrace started off what was a wonderful break. The Cliff Walk is exceptional and well worth it, with spectacular views. No amount of my amateur photographs will do it justice—you have to see it to believe it. The spa was very relaxing, and the pool was the perfect temperature, just cool enough to counteract the heat of the sauna and steam room, providing all the benefits for those stiff muscles and joints. We felt under no pressure at any time to comply with any time constraints. We were allowed to delay our dinner booking with ease, and dinner in the Bar Restaurant certainly did not disappoint. The Baked Sole was delicious, and our wine choice, the Albariño, which we were assisted with, was a perfect pairing. It was the small things throughout the dinner that made it so special: wonderful cocktails beforehand, Guinness & Treacle Bread hot from the oven, and the freshly baked crackers that accompanied the cheese platter (along with delicious apple & pear chutney). After our fabulous meal, we decided to investigate the whiskey shelf for a nightcap. It was great to see Irish Whiskeys at the forefront, with very knowledgeable bar staff. We decided on a Powers-based "Old Fashioned" and a neat Powers John's Lane—both a perfect way to close out the evening. Our room was perfect, the bed so comfortable, and the sea views in the morning from our room were breathtaking. Overall, a great stay, and we feel like we've been away for much longer than one night! If you are only staying for one night, I cannot recommend highly enough that you make every effort to get there for lunchtime, so you're well settled in by the time your room becomes available.
