The room wss very clean and had everything I needed and it worked.  The price was quite low and it still included a good breakfast. The walk from the station was only 10 mins. My only gripes were that the hallways had a tobacco odour.

Cannot beat the price

The staff is very nice, but a few investments in the house like carpet or bathroom and towels would be necessary, a more loving breakfast with more fresh and cereal bread would go right away.

Cheap, very simple, cheap breakfast

During a concert visit to Nordhausen in September 2016, I spent a night at the Hotel Avena. As part of the hotel search, I emphasized above all that the hotel is affordable on the one hand, and accessible on foot from both the train station and the venue. The hotel met my needs and expectations. It is located close enough to the city center and is convenient and easy to find for local guests. The staff is friendly and helpful, the room is simple, but purposefully equipped and clean.

For a short stay, all right.

We needed accommodation for one night. The hotel was fine for one night, unfortunately the room was right next to the door between the staircase and the hallway. Other guests didn't take into account the use. The door fell into the castle accordingly loudly. The bathroom was okay. The curtain unfortunately didn't fall off. Sleeping was also not possible. Breakfast was okay.

Emergency resolution

We arrived in Nordhausen, late evening after a long day`s driving when it was raining really hard. Having difficulty in finding a hotel we were directed to the Avena by a passer-by. By then I was so tired I`d have slept in a dog kennel!
The hotel is functional - it is unpretentious. Our room was basic but clean. The bathroom was as small as the shower room in a cabin on a P&O ferry! However, the bed was comfortable and the room, warm. No complaints there!
The restaurant did not provide evening meals so we dined in the local fast food hut!
Breakfast was limited but OK and the waitress, delightful.
We slept on the third floor - no lift!
However, the Avena served its purpose. I would stay there again!

Any port in a storm

If I can avoid going back, I will: the Hotel Avena is a very modest hotel whose only advantage is that it is located near (but not too much: 1km) from the station, in the lower part of the city. The single room, very small and suffocating, gave an idea of poor cleanliness due to stains on the old carpet, in addition to the hateful smell of stagnant smoke that lingered in the premises. At the first light of dawn the room is illuminated during the day due to the semi-transparent blue slopes that do not repair at all from the light.
