I, too, thought this was a casino after riding past the building a hundred times, until a local friend told me of the baths inside. So finally I went for the baths and I was so delighted that I returned again and again for the baths. It is difficult to determine the validity of claims that the baths are spring fed, although the Tianjin municipality is known for many natural springs. One time when visiting with a friend I did book a room in the hotel, which is almost an afterthought (as well as the dining, and I suppose foreign clientele). I agree the decor was over the top and the bed was very Chinese (large, flat and hard, with nice sheets and fine embroidered quilt). The bath-only package (72 Yuan?) includes meals, which I found served in a crowded dining hall with disappointingly mass-produced food. The meals served in the restaurant for hotel guests were a significant improvement but still fell short compared to other hotel restaurant experiences. In short, a mid-city resort/spa for upscale Chinese, with great baths most adventurous foreigners would enjoy if they knew about it
