Typical Khmer family run guest house. The owners seem gentle, but the room that we got was just terrible: ugly and dirty bathroom with weak water pressure, spider web around, lousy paint, the bed covers and sheets that are yellow tired, no cleaning service. The only advantages is the price (15$/night for aircon room) and the aircon that is cold. That s it.

Cheap, but hygiene doubtful

Quiet and nice area just by the lake. However too far from the center if you don't have a motorbike or a bicycle.  You can't rent one there. The room is big and really clean and the bedsheets smell good(which is rare here..).
No wifi in the room, no hot water and nobody speaks English. 6$ for single.

Our room was very much like the pink photo.  But charming, not garish.  The ceiling had an old fashioned floral repeated  design running around the edge.  A nice touch.  $12 for a big 2-bed room w. a big bathroom with perfect hot water.

The hallways were granite tile and spotless.  The hall sitting area had a great view and teak-type lounge chairs.  Perfectly quiet at night

Very pleasant and cooperative Khmer staff.  Wifi good.

Lovely Basic Hotel

The bus journey from Phnom Penh to Banlong (the capital of the province of Ratanakiri) took 10 hours (in bad weather it can stretch up to 13 hours!). Right at the bus stop you will meet the guys with local hotel advertisements: from farm tourism-style cottages to impressive hotels. My choice fell on the guest house Prak Oara - located by the lake, large rooms, air conditioning, working equipment. The manager Mr. Sophan is good at English and will help organize a tour of the local attractions.

A lovely hotel in the beautiful Ratanakiri

This airy guesthouse situated behind the lake is about 15 minutes walk from the Ban Lung market due north . The rates are cheap for both fan and aircond rooms with attached bathrooms . It is quite new and neat . Food is concentrated in town only and the market is open in the day with eateries along the main road in town . 

Medium sized guest house by the lake

At $6 a night this is as cheap as chips, so don't expect too much. It was clean enough in that the bathroom was clean, the sheets were clean the floor was clean. But it could do with a dust to get rid of the dust and cobwebs that are gathered in places. Also could do with a lick of paint where there are tons of marks on the walls. Bedding was a bit tired and could be updated. You will get a knock on your door about 10 minutes after checking in. This is Mr Sophann trying to sell you tours which is a little bit in your face when you have just checked in and are trying to get settled, have showers etc. if you book a tour with him he will then be on your case to buy bus tickets off him. It was easier to go with it but I suspect it might be cheaper if you get the chance to shop around. We enjoyed our day out with him though nonetheless.
