Verdes Mares Hostel

Everything you'd expect from a good hostel. Is was very chilled, good internet connection, fruits at breakfast were great, very quiet. Not much atmosphere but if you want a beautiful quiet place to chill and read then this is your place. Slept so well here. Only a few minutes walk to the middle of the main beach in Ponta Negra. Close to main road for buses but far enough that it is quiet.

Although the owner frequently seemed tired and exhausted, she was friendly and helpful.  She showed me how to get to places and booked me a buggy tour and a taxi to the airport.  There’s a small kitchenette with a laundry sink where you can hand wash clothes and hang them to dry.  The only small issue with my room was that the shower water took a very long time to drain so the entire bathroom floor would have water everywhere.  Though there were bars on the window to my room, the wooden doors on it wouldn’t lock together.  I had booked at the last minute and for some strange reason could only select a double room for one person.  Although I was given a room with a queen bed and a twin bunk bed set, she charged me less than what the hostel booking website quoted.  Cool!  That was much appreciated.  The ceiling fan and a/c were nice to have after being in the heat/sun.  The small pool was decent for a dip or to sit near day or night.  The breakfast had good variety and one morning I was offered scrambled eggs. I’d definitely consider staying here if I return to Natal.

I´ve stayed at Hostel Verdes Mares for 7 nights and spent the New Year´s Eve there.
Rita, the owner, and her family are very kind people, always helpful. The hostel is very calm (if you want party at the hostel, that´s not the place for you) and I met families during my stay. When I come back to Natal, surely I´ll stay there again.

LOCATION
The Hostel is a few minutes from the Ponta Negra beach. There are groceries, bars, commercial centers, ATMs within walking distance. Personally I didn´t like Ponta Negra beach, but I may say it is a main beach in Natal, where the Morro do Careca is located. The street is calm, but I don´t recommend walking alone at night (actually I don´t recommed walking alone in Natal, as violence in the city increases everyday. Avoid getting out with much money and be careful with cameras, mobiles etc).

ROOM AND HOSTEL FACILITIES
I stayed in a single room and also in the dorm (for 2 nights). My room (the single one) was outside the main building, beside the TV / breakfast area, so there was a bit of noise. I had a double bed, private bathroom with amenities (towels etc free of charge), TV, ceiling fan. Everything was very clean and my room was cleaned everyday. It was a bit small, but I had enough space (consider it is a hostel). There was also a locker with the keys.
The single/ double rooms inside the building had AC.

The dorm was a bit small and a bit hot. There was a ceiling fan, but it wasn´t enough. Rita told us that they would have AC soon in the dorms. The room had a private bathroom and lockers. We were given bed linen and towels, free of charge.

The hostel had a small kitchen for guests, with fridge, microwave oven, stove and other kitchen amenities.
There was also laundry service.

In the common area, there was a swimming pool, tables, chairs, barbecue grill, TV area, gym apparatus, board games at request.

SERVICE
Rita and her family are very helpful people. She helped us with the promenades/ excursions, explained the best tide for going to scuba in Maracajaú, arranged the buggy excursions...
On the New Year´s Eve, Rita and Tia Lu prepared a great dinner and all the guests were invited to join. And the best: nothing was charged! We only had to bring our beverages.
Rita also helped me to plan the rest of my trip, as I had 10 days more of vacations. She helped me book a great hostel in Pipa and gave me tips on where to go/ visit.

Breakfast was very nice. There was milk, coffee, cocoa, natural juices, many fruits, bread, cakes, jam, cheese, ham... Ask Rita to prepare the delicious tapiocas with butter.

As long as I remember, there was no computer which we could use and I´m not sure if there was wifi, because I hadn´t brought my notebook. I used a cyber café in a commercial center near the hostel.

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS
My stay in Hostel Verdes Mares was great. The place is calm, the owners are great people and it was like being home. This is the perfect place if you want to have fun all day long and rest at night, as the street is calm and party inside the hostel is not allowed. As the hostel is very close to bars, it´s very easy to go party at night.
I highly recommend staying at Hostel Verdes Mares.I definitely would come back! Rita and Tia Lu, you are in my heart!
