Hanoi Blue Star Hostel

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst visiting Hanoi and would recommend it. The staff are all really friendly and very accommodating, even letting us check in a lot earlier. We had a double room which was very spacious. The omlette breakfast was also good.
The hostel is in a really good location and therefore within walking distance from a lot of the tourist landmarks.

Great hostel in a great location

We were loyal customers and stayed with blue star 1 and 2 approx. five times. Never had issues with them, and they always tried to cater to our needs which we really appreciated.
We didn't mind that the TV didn't work, or that we had to go without hot water for A few days, or the wifi barely worked.
What we did mind, was their last minute cancellation. We booked in advance and on boxing day, the day before we were meant to check in, they decided to cancel our booking due to "maintenance issues." 

It's such a shame because they are lovely people, but to cancel a day before on boxing day where we had to result in spending more money and time on boxing day looking for a reasonable priced place to stay was aggravating and time consuming. They're effortless emails were even more frustrating as they obviously hadn't read it or even cared. I would understand if it was true, however, I don't believe that both buildings are empty for maintenance. Due to this, we won't be coming back because of proven unreliability and incompetence. I would give them less stars, but the reception staff were very attentive and friendly, so thank you for that. 

Lovely staff but unreliable bookings.

The location is great. Our room was spacious and looked nice and had a tv and aircon but there was a horrible smell coming from the bathroom I think out of the shower drain that seeped into the room. Was also hard to sleep in after 6 or 7am as there was so much noise from the city, other guests and the construction work they were doing. There was a lizard in our room also but he didnt bother us. The people running it are nice and have somewhat ok english. Wasn't a luxury stay or anything but you get what you pay for I've definitely stayed in worse. 

Bit noisy & smelly but not the worst - good location

I book the room through Booking, already paid the fee then they still forced me to pay twice by cash. The staffs are impolite and violent. The room was dirty and don’t have the facilities like they said

Horrible

I'm not usually one to write a bad review but please read this... 
The staff were so horrific, to the point that when we left they said 'f*** you'. 

The hostel itself looks nothing like the pictures. It's basically only half finished. 

They will not let you go up to your room until 1pm on the dot and will tell you it's because the rooms are full (which is fair enough) HOWEVER there was nobody else in the rooms, they were empty. So my partner (who was literally sleeping in the reception area because he was poorly) and I waited 8 hours until exactly 1 on the dot to get into our room, and at no point in those hours did I see anbody leave. 

Even after staying there for one night they made us change rooms and wait another 1.5 hours to check into a new room...even though we were the ones doing them a favour. Meaning it was nearly 2pm and we hadn't go to explore Hanoi yet, we DID NOT want to leave our bags their because somebody tried to come into our room twice that miring and we heard them trying to open all the others doors as well!!! So we rang our hotel company to cancel the book and as they tried to get ahold of blue star hostel 2 , they pretended they could not speak English and hung up. Then we got the nice little 'f*** you' on the way out.  Most horrific experience. Wouldn't waste your time nor money on it.

DO NOT STAY HERE

We stayed here two nights on either side of our Halong bay cruise. We had pre booked both nights otherwise I would have left after one. We stayed in a room in blue star on the first night and a room in blue star two on the second night. Problems with the hotel were ad follows :
1. They booked us an airport transfer and overcharged us greatly. We paid about 400,000 dong and when we later booked a return transfer found out it was only 275,000 dong. Not a huge deal but not honest.
2. The bedding was dirty. As was the towel.
3. The bathroom was disgusting. Out sink was hanging off the wall! You'd get covered in water everytime you'd wash your hands because the water ran out of the basin
4. The place STUNK. I think it was mould but both the bathroom and the aircon were disgusting.
5. When we mentioned that our TV was broken (completely obviously destroyed) he dismissed our concerns and said it was "tricky to work"... The whole screen was destroyed.
6. No soundproofing at all

This hostel needs serious work before it should be allowed to be used as accommodation.
