Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Hotel

My three-day stay at Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was quite incredible and unlike anywhere I had previously stayed in the world. The check-in quickly became complicated when the credit card I used to pay for the room (two months prior) was not the same as the credit card I used for the deposit. The manager was called and I became upset and overwhelmed. I contacted my brother to assist me, as I had apparently (and inadvertently) broken Vietnamese banking regulations. The manager, Mr Dao, was very understanding throughout and offered to accompany me to my upgraded room to finalise the details of my check-in. This is when I realised that I had been upgraded to the Charlie Chaplin suite for the duration of my stay. The suite, the butler service, the restaurants, breakfast at Le Beaulieu, high tea at Le Club Bar and happy hour at the Bamboo Bar, dinner at the Spice Garden, coffee at La Terrace and people watching, were all top-notch. In appreciation, I penned a letter to Mr Dao: Dear Mr Dao, I wanted to write and let you know how much I appreciate your assistance earlier this week and to thank you for the upgrade you have given me. I felt bad when I got upset and also embarrassed. Your patience and kindness helped me a great deal. In all the confusion, I can remember you saying “We want you to be happy, Miss Anne”. That will stay with me, Mr Dao. I won't forget. Since Tuesday, I have tried to make the most of each day and I have had a truly memorable time here. And that is down to you, Mr Dao. I appreciate everything you arranged for me and I also appreciate the excellent staff here, particularly Tony, Hoa and Hoa, and Van from Le Beaulieu. He read my letter to his staff, and said that this is what they aim for, in trying to meet guests' needs. Needless to say, I am planning a second stay at Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel.
