My dad and his friend went Wednesday night for meal.  Very expensive for what they got.  Peas which should have been mushy but were just smashed.  Dauphinous potatoes where just like boiled potatoes with no sauce.  Batter on fish not cook properly.  Neither complained as both in eighties.  Would not recommend this pub to anyone .

Awful Meal

We were out for a day getting spares for my classic and thought that we should find a pub to eat; the first we found was the Red Lion. Called in and very pleasantly surprised. We had the two courses for £12.50. Chicken wings, meat croquettes, checked burger and beef burger. The croquettes will full of meat and very tasty, perfectly cooked too, chicken wings in BBQ sauce also spot on. Both the burgers came with a good portion of very tasty chips.
The pub is spotless, well decorated and very pleasant. Owner / Barman very attentive, polite and helpful. For the money good value and a great place. Definitely call again if in the area. Recommend if you are around

Great little pub just off the motorway

Went to this pub,never been before. Had a lovely meal starter and main meal of fish and chips. Both were lovely and surprise surprise the chips were fresh not frozen. Will definitely go back. They do a breakfast on Saturday so might try that next.

Good Food

Called in for a couple of drinks on Sunday lunchtime and were very pleased with everything about this well-run pub.
They were pretty busy with lunches which was a good sign and the whole pub was bright clean and well furnished even the two football teams were mostly outside and well behaved and considerate to others.
There is a large covered seated area together with a lawned area for kids to enjoy in the garden and plenty of parking. Didn't eat but the cask beer was spot on so will return.

Vibrant village local

We had Sunday lunch at the red lion again today, I had the roasted rump of beef and my partner had the pork belly, both cooked to perfection!

The Yorkshire pudding roast potatoes and gravy were delicious and the fresh chantenay carrots and tenderstem broccoli were a lovely change to normal frozen veg you get at other places.

I would definitely recommend the red lion for Sunday lunch and can't wait to try their burgers next week!!!

Excellent service!!

We ordered a meal for 6 people in our family as a treat starters mains puddings we collected and dropped it of to family members unable to travel due to COVID-19 restrictions as a takeaway we then had ours at home I must say everything was perfect good tasty food and plenty everyone had a burger and commented that they were extremely good 
I can recommend the red lion friendly staff and good service 

Takeaway meal

Called in for a quick drink after a two or three year absence and was pleased to see it had been re-decorated and modernised. Our previous stop was in Burbage nearby at another of Marston's pubs where we had ordered a pint of bitter and a small Pinot Grigio and lemonade and were charged £6.30 about average in this area but not in the Red Lion unfortunately, theirs came to £7.75 for the same two drinks and they are supplied by the same brewery. I can understand why it was almost empty and for our part deserves to be.

Overpriced Drinks

Stayed for 2 nights. Room basic but it was clean. The tv remote didn’t work properly but to be fair we were too tired to care. The bed was comfortable. 

Bad points, kettle was filthy, could do with a proper good clean. The sink was to small to fill the kettle so had to use mugs to fill it up. The shower was filthy! The soap dish had a build up of soap on it. The tiles had black mould on them, not just the grout. There was Andrex toilet paper though :-).

Disappointed that they didn’t do food as I had booked it as it had a restaurant. They said it was because  the kitchen was being refurbed. I looked on line and the kitchen has been being refurbished for over a year! A regular also told me they havnt done food for 3 years. They did let us order a takeaway.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. 

Not great but done the job

I was refused a refund. I understand that I was at fault and had made the booking in error. The booking should have been for 28 April 2018 as we were going to attend a 60th birthday party at Sapcote Hall. We arrived at the Red Lion and told the girl behind the bar that we had a booking for 28 April. I gave her my name and even spelt it out for her. She gave us the receipt and took us upstairs to the room. We noticed that the shower extractor fan and heater were not working and was very cold. The room itself was also cold even with the heater on fully. We checked the pillows and found them to be covered in brown mucus stains. The quilt was very thin and the cover quite shabby. We did not look at the quilt itself. We then got ready for the party when a lady came in and told us that the room had been booked for someone else. The person who had booked the room was in fact the brother of the person whose party it was. The lady checked our reservation on my iPad and contacted booking.com. I then checked the reservation again and saw that the reservation was for the 28 July and not the 28 April. The lady said that she would contact another pub/hotel to see if she could get us in. We thanked her and she left the room. My wife and I got our belongings together and went downstairs. We asked the girl behind the bar where the lady was and she told us that she had to go home. This I found was very unprofessional as she had promised to see if she could get us in with an alternative room nearby but disappeared. As this was our respite weekend we had organised a carer to look after our disabled son at home so we decided to find somewhere else to stay. We had to abandon all thoughts of going to the party as it was to far from Sapcote and we were by then very hungry. If the girl behind the bar had noticed that we were not the person who had booked the room when we arrived we could have found alternative accommodation elsewhere and been able to go to the party. The Red Lion said that it was my fault and that if they find that the extractor fan etc was not working they would charge me for the repairs.

Avoid at all costs. Very unfriendly owners.

Went to what is our local. What a sad experience that was. Third time is not a charm. 
The place needs something. It's the only pub in the village could be making a killing! 
Place was empty except for 6 die hards. 
Outside had a mix of an old leather 3 piece suite and an old washing machine adding to the 'pub garden'
Sat inside in the dark had lots of home made signs everywhere and junk behind the bar. Remnants I suspect of what was once a great pub. 
Marstons you need to do something here. This place is surrounded by houses and new ones at that with people with disposable income like us who'd go to a great pub on an evening and this would be ideal as it's just a short walk. 
Not the most welcoming place especially when you have the Bluebell in Stoney Stanton.
