Great place to meet up with friends for something to eat or just get drinks friendly bar staff plenty of space to sit inside as well as large beer garden also family friendly easy access for both wheelchairs and prams an all round value for money kind of place for everyone

Another great stay at the Hatchett Inn. Very much ‘as you would expect’ of a ‘spoons downstairs in the bar/ restaurant but the accommodation is on another level. 

The rooms are extremely comfortable. We sleep so well here. Nice touches like hot chocolate, biscuits and bottled water are greatly appreciated.

Great shower and very comfortable double bed in this particular room. Tea making facilities, extra pillows, hairdryer etc. 

The staff are exceptional. Not one passed us without saying hello or checking we were ok.

Very good location for town centre and racecourse (20 min walk).

Very highly recommended for a stay in Newbury.

Excellent service as always. Best Wetherspoons I’ve visited and I’m somewhat of a connoisseur. Special mention to the gorgeous Emma who noticed that my wine wasn’t that cold and offered a wine bucket without prompting. Really good customer service. Thank you Emma and all of the FoH team

Though unusually disappointed on our last visit the Hatchet has now redeemed itself. We had breakfasts and dinners on our most recent visit and they were amazing. We opted for the £25 special, 2 main meals and 2 sweets. We anticipated small portions but no, they were huge and as per the regular menu but discounted. The (Traditional) Mixed Grill had 4 meats, including Lamb, plus a sausage and the Double Burger, chips and trimmings was a huge plateful. Also some good beers and a stout on offer.

i dont know why wetherspoons gets bad press..food was top class..served quickly and polite staff..everything in the all day brunch was cooked to perfection and so was the jacket potato..excellent value too.

I had a 4 night stay here, All the Staff were so helpful, nothing was to much trouble as I work long hours and had difficulty with checking in, The Room was beautifully clean and very comfortable..I would highly recommend The Hatchet and definitely stay there again.



We booked into the Hatchet Inn as the first stop on a bike ride from Reading to Bath. When we arrived we were told we were in 'the cottage' out the back. With a little trepidation we went up to the room which turned out to be massive and really nice. The beds were comfortable, bathroom was huge and we even had decent tea and coffee facilities. 
We had called in advance to ask if there was secure storage for the bikes and were told we could take them to our room. Unfortunately we were on the 1st floor so this tricky but we managed and it was good knowing the bikes were secure. 
The only slight down is that our room overlooked the beer garden so there was some noise until the early hours but the double glazing is pretty good so it didn't stop us getting a good nights sleep.

We’ve been to the Hatch many times and always felt welcome but last night was the best. Our waiter was Mike and boy was he good, not just for us but all the tables he served. The food as ever was hot, good portions and we’ll presented. We’ll done Mike

Stayed here for one night only. £60 for a giant room - apparently it was the biggest in the establishment. Rooms are very clean, air conditioning and plenty of amenities available. Staff were super friendly and breakfast downstairs was cheap and prompt.

Quick service for the food and drinks on the app , you pay for what you get basically ! Some really dodgy clientele in here who like a drink far far far too much.m for most peoples liking !
A vast selection of beers and wines to suit many the food cones very quick and is very basic.

We visited here this morning on our way north for a big breakfast.
The restaurant was light and airy with outside seating available.  The staff were friendly and helpful to a point. The breakfast was well sized and cooked and arrived piping hot.
The downside was this was the first weatherspoons where I have asked for no beans and an extra slice of bacon or sausage and been refused.
Sadly, the toast was only very lightly browned and so still soft rather than dark and crunchy.
Havisad that I would go back if I was ever going that way again.

Hatchett in is great again……….

The staff of  The Hatchet Inn can be a bit hit or miss when it comes to service at the bar. The selection of guest ales is always good and, we being there on a Tuesday and it being "steak day", got the special of gammon, jacket potato, peas, tomato, mushroom.... so filling! Plenty of different areas so one can find a seat as quiet or noisy as one wants.  Must be very convenient for the hotel guests above! Is close to the bus station and on the town square so  plenty of foot traffic. The beer garden is large and is wonderful in summer for parties.

Do not take an axe to this Spoons!

Stayed here whilst visiting nearby Highclere Castle. Our room was in the quaint cottage in the beer garden. Room was big and benefitted from Air-Con. Decor was ok but could do with a little bit of a tidy. Was worried about nice from the beer garden but room was completely quiet and we had a great nights sleep. Staff were very friendly and the drinks prices were incredible! Can't remember the last time I bought a pint for less than £2.50! 
Overall great stay for the price. Tip if you are bringing a car: 24 hours parking can be had at the nearby Sainsburys car park for £3 (Booked on JustPark.com)

Great Stay

Huge room, amazing value and good for cyclists

Had two rooms overlooking the market square. Whilst the rooms were smaller than in other Wetherspoon hotels, they were just about right. Comfortable beds, waterfall showers, very clean and quiet, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. Easy, cheerful check in and out. Usual Wetherspoon fayre available in the bar downstairs.
Our second visit and back next year.

Had the 'Traditional Breakfast', tasted nice, all the meats were nice  however were out of fried eggs and had to give us poached instead, mine was overdone but the other one was perfectly done.
the food was quite cold.

food needs to be hot and plates should be warmed at an absoloute minimum.

Always have breakfast at The Hatchet when in Newbury and at least one dinner. The standard may not be haute cusine but it is very good and reliable. Usually a good range of ales but on this occasion there were no dark ales or stouts. Quite common in many places during summer.
