Lovely location, nice room very friendly and attentive staff. Great breakfast and bar/restaurant

Really like this place. Visited as a solo business traveler, so want somewhere comfortable and clean where I can eat in. The rooms are very comfortable indeed and I can’t fault the cleanliness. WiFi works well.  Staff are really friendly without being intrusive. Evening menu is varied even for a gluten free pain like me, and offer great value for money. There’s a good vibe in the bar as well. Breakfast is included and very good. The location is perfect for me - nice and quiet and having arrived in darkness I was very pleasantly surprised by the views. It’s about 15 minutes away from Consett which is perfect.

It was so lovely to arrive to a cosy hotel with a comfy bed & fab breakfast!

I had a lovely stay. It was everything that I expected. It was a very comfortable room, with a touch of luxury. The large  bed was fantastic. Hairdryer, straighteners and  Bathrobes available to use.

Good value and nicely equipped rooms. Staff were helpful and friendly which added to a pleasant stay. We were a four man fishing group and breakfast from 07:30 was great for us to make an early start. Food was good and reasonably priced (we ate in the restaurant all three nights). It is highly likely that we will stay again next year.

Great value hotel, clean and comfortable.

Really enjoyed my time here, mostly peaceful, food good and left alone as needed privacy. Lovely pub and surroundings. Only gripes would be loud music until 2.00am in the morning one of nights I was there, but I guess this comes with staying in a pub. Also nasty smell in shower/toilet room, Maybe a problem with water pipes. Sort of like a dirty drain smell. Shame as the rest of my experience was great.

Great Accomodation

Really nice stay but shine was taken off by one of staff being quite confrontational. Lovely welcome and check-in spoiled by an older lady I believe called Nicola (that’s what came up on the digital till when I purchased a drink later in the evening) who involved herself unnecessarily in the check-in process.The room was really nice and great value for money. I had a great view of the surrounding countryside.I booked a table for dinner and I found the food okay but again Nicola starred by being argumentative when I made an observation about the overcooked chips I was served and didn’t eat.In conclusion I generally enjoyed my stay but my overarching memory is the confrontational approach by Nicola which would probably prevent me from a repeat stay.

I loved my stay at this hotel. The bed was warm and comfy, the room and en suite were spotlessly clean. I had the best nights sleep in years. The staff were helpful and friendly. The restaurant was fantastic even producing me a meal for specific dietary requirements with a dish not on the menu. I have nothing but praise for this hotel and intend stay here if ever I need to work in the county again. Thank you to all the staff.

Amazing hotel.

The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was made with fresh produce,the portions were of an adequate size and it was very tasty. The room was well equipped, the only criticism would be a full length mirror in the room would be benificial and you could not fit your legs beneath the dressing table as the chair was too high. In the en-suite the toilet seat was loose and some discolouration of of the plastic seal at the bottom of the glass shower screen. The carpets in the accommodation corridor need cleaning .

Anchor Inn Stay

Stayed for a couple of nights as a base to visit the local area.
We didn't realise just how remote it was, being virtually the only building in the area but that was our fault for not researching it better.
A large comfortable room, but if you want it serviced you must inform the management in the morning. The bathroom was somewhat smaller in proportion to the bedroom and would be absolutely impossible for two people to be in there at the same time.
Excellent freshly cooked breakfast and multiple choices for great value dinner in the evening.

Very nice but somewhat remote

Fantastic place, the hosts are remarkable people in making this such a great experience. Food is as you would expect in a great county pub, room really comfortably and the wife loved the big fluffy bathrobes.100% recommended if you wish a traditional county pub in a semi rural location. Excellent road connections just minutes away.

Proper country pub with accommodation

Beautiful rural location. Lovely clean room and very comfy bed. Plenty of tea & coffee etc plus bottled water which is nice. Very large restaurant. We ate in the restaurant and the food was gorgeous, I had the lamb & mint hotpot pie, I can highly recommend it, it was the best pie I have ever tasted, and breakfast was just as good next morning. Very friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.

Beautiful Rural Location

Hotel and room were lovely.Food excellent. The room lovel y beautiful furniture. Bathroom a great letdown .Sink was so small it was unusable.  Bath had a shower over .This was very difficult to access.as it had nothing to hold on to to get in .On the I would recommend the Anchor .Very busy and a beautiful building .The service could have been. better.
