As frequent travellers we often find ourselves flying early morning from Bristol Airport and have on several occasions stayed at the George and Dragon at Felton. Unfortunately for them we won’t be staying there again. Previously our stays had been uneventful and the food actually quite good however, not this time. But it wasn’t the food that was the issue but more the way that the manager dealt with the problem. After ordering a large 10oz Gammon and chips what arrived was no bigger than the palm of my hand and the majority of this was fat. The meat was overcooked and tasteless. I spoke politely to the bar staff and ask if she could deal with the meal. I was then visited by a very young waiter who said it would take 20 minutes to provide more food and the manager wanted to know did I really want a new one. I agreed this was too long to wait as my partner was already well through his meal. I said I would eat the chips and veg but when the bill arrived I was charge full price for the meal. I asked the bar staff to take off the bill and she offered me a “couple of pounds” discount. I asked for the meal to be removed and after consulting the manager who hid in the kitchen I was told the most they would offer was £10 off leaving me to pay £5.95 for a spoonful of peas and a handful of chips. Shockingly short sighted and cowardly that the manager sent junior staff to deal with the issue. For the sake of £5.95 we will no long stay which means they lose out on over £600 per year. Bad customer service leaves a worse taste in the mouth than badly cooked gammon.

Cowardly Manager fails to see bigger picture

4 out of 5 for us, used as an airport stay as we had an early flight the very next morning. Rooms are showing age a little bit kept clean and tidy. Only around 5 rooms available from what I could see, so thought it would be quite quiet. Creaking floor boards from above, rooms are close to rear entrance from the car park so people passing rooms on arrival. On the plus side rooms are very cheap and very convenient to the airport only 5 minutes drive. Beds we very clean and comfortable. The pub was fantastic and had a great feel to it, food was also amazing. We were made to feel very welcome. 

Nice and close to airport with great food.

Polite, helpful, friendly staff.  Stumbled upon this Lovely old fashioned pub, by accident. Plenty of character, lots of “cosy” rooms & quite quirky. (Paintings, woodwork for sale etc,,)  very clean & tidy. Food & drink choices quite varied (& husband over the moon that they stocked his favourite cider….Natch) no problem choosing what we wanted to eat (even veggie options) well priced, served quickly, well presented & most importantly, delicious!  Thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

Fabulous all round

Booked this hotel in December for a night stay before an early flight. 

Arrived in the evening. Room was ready with an easy check in. Perfect distance to airport. Airport parking available - would definitely park here next time.

Lovely clean rooms with light breakfast provided. Only criticisms were creaking floor boards but didn’t ruin sleep; and only one pillow each.

Overall, lovely stay. Thank you.

First visit, Had Sunday lunch and it was perfect very tasty. 

Fresh vegetables and home made Yorkshire puddings and gravy which was very tasty. 

Stayed over night as well ready for flight from Bristol.

Excellent service and friendly people food of excellent quality and value for money room was very clean and good size excellent value for money car park for duration of holiday a good selection of draught and bottled ales and ciders at a reasonable price. 

Excellent time for us both.

I enjoyed a beer in the sunshine and then had a wonderful meal in the bar.  Staff were attentive and welcoming. Food and drink good value for money in my opinion. 

Good selection on the menu to cater for most tastes I would say.

Friendly, good value, enjoyable!

This was a lovely place to stay. We booked on the day and received an email informing us which room we were in and how to access the room. We arrived and were able to check ourselves in - so easy. The room was beautiful and warm, cozy and clean. The beds were super comfy and there were even little continental breakfast boxes with porridge for us. The rooms were also not above the pub so no worries about pub noise. 
We then went to the pub to have dinner which was very welcoming, a lovely lady served us and was so welcoming. The chef came out here and there and was very friendly. 
The pub was warm and cosy - lovely character wall and window with a lovely open fire which was lit. The menu was not too fancy or complicated and very reasonably priced. The food when it arrived was lovely and just as we had requested it. There was great choices behind the bar for drinks too as reasonable prices. 
The parking had plenty of spaces and was well lit.
We slept very well and most importantly, the room was warm and cosy and the bed comfy. 
Great stay overall and we would definitely return. 

Excellent experience and stay.

Ground floor room had the same problems as others mentioned, the creaky floorboards of the rooms above. These aren’t minor creeks, every movement wakes you from your sleep. Add to that the noisy road which isn’t busy constantly but when a car races by you hear it plainly as the windows are so thin. Entrance door creeks with the wind. It’s a cold room, you can feel the draught from under the door. Ran a tap in the middle of the night for water and I may aswel have blasted a foghorn. Bed is small and also creeks. Next door decided to have a domestic outside the window complete with door slamming on their return to their room ( thanks guys)  All in all, I have managed 90 minutes sleep with a full day of activities ahead after our flight to Edinburgh. Pub didn’t open until 5 with food served from 6. I wanted to go somewhere else as we arrived just before 3 but husband insisted on trying dinner at our lodgings. The food was really lovely and the pub itself very charming. I read about warm welcomes, no one was rude but no one was particularly warm either. Breakfast basket in the room was a nice touch, the croissant saved me at 2am when I had nothing else to do but listen to the array of noise. A big shame, we stayed in Bristol so as not to have to get up so early for our flight but turned out to be a fruitless exercise in the end. 

Tired

A delayed flight from Rome to Bristol. Panic stations as would miss the last train. Phone call to The George and Dragon. 
I turned up after 11pm but my key was there. Room was warm and clean. 
Everything worked as it should and good value for money compared to the Airport Hotel. 
The stand out feature was the kindness of the Landlord in the morning. 
He offered me a lift back to the Airport for my bus/train connections. 
He didn’t have to do that. He offered as a Gentleman would. 
I was tired and a long way from home and he helped me get back home.
