Fantastic
2741 reviewsGrab a coffee, and please read! Having stayed at the Imperial last year, we decided to give the Palace a go after seeing the extensive modernisation that has taken place. We arrived at the hotel at approx 10pm and were greeted by a lovely Bell Boy who quickly took our luggage off us. Entering reception, you could instantly see the transformation. The reception staff were informative. However, I did feel they were quick to push a room upgrade for an added cost. We were shown to our room, which was beautiful. Very clean and very modern. We could not fault it. The hotel grounds were nice, but then I started to compare things to the Imperial. We didn't like the Grand Show Arena area as there's no tables to sit at, whereas the Imperial the evening entertainment felt better sitting at a table rather in an arena style area. We did go over to the new arena near the waterpark when that was open and feel that should be used more often. The new waterpark is a great addition to both hotels, but a few slides were not in use at all during our stay, which is a shame, really. The entertainment team during the day were fantastic, and they worked so hard. They were never too pushy if you didn't wish to join in the activities. The staff on roller skates bringing drinks etc again we couldn't fault them. Now I will get to the food and drink. The buffet restaurant wasn't as good at the Imperial, and the food was never hot. There was always something to eat, but the menu was quite repetative. Breakfast was probably our favourite using using the buffet. The snack bars were poor compared to the variety at the Imperial. We ate at a few al a carte restaurants, and I will give my honest opinion: Turkish Restaurant is outside and very, very hot. The food was nice but the service was rushed. We ended up with starter, main, and dessert on our table and were in and out the restaurant within 30 minutes. The staff didn't like to refill drinks either. Japanese (which was an additional cost) food was delicious again, very hot, though, as outside. Steak (additional cost) was probably the worst, in my opinion. Again, very rushed and meat wasn't good quality. Mexican was our favourite by far. Lovely atmosphere, and the food was delicious. In my opinion the service was fantastic. Now the drinks!!! They are terrible for the standard of the hotel. The cocktails all taste the same very syrupy and poor quality. We always found we could grab a sun lounger on a morning, so there were no early alarms. Now, would we return...probably but only if we found an excellent deal. I think the Imperial is slightly better, but if the palace takes on board people's reviews of the hotel, this hotel could be one of the best. All in all we've had a fantastic holiday thank you.
