Hotell Hilda

All was excellent. But there is the small ceiling fan that it is annoying and I was not able switch it off.

The pictures do not do it justice.  If you are from North America this will give you the ultimate cozy Scandinavian vibe.  The lighting, candles even during breakfast, and room decor was such a welcome in the cold rainy days in October.  It was bare bones with no conditioner, shampoo, hair dryer but still simple, cozy with warm people working there.  The beautiful library is across the street and great to see.  So quick and easy to the downtown centre.  Centrally located.  We loved our stay!!

The service and the staff is excellent.  The hotel has 12 rooms and a restaurant.  Its close to city center.

The staff were life-savers! They are all so friendly. All speak English very well. Check in is different from an American chain so plan ahead to be in hotel restaurant by 20:00, or make easy arrangements. The room was so quaint and beautiful. Breakfast was so traditional. I loved it. I've missed Kalmar and it was good to make a visit back and stay at this lovely place.

What a cozy place to stay! Everyone was so friendly the room was comfortable, and breakfast was delicious with so many choices. The attached restaurant was so good I ate there both nights! I also got helpful ideas about places to visit while I was in the city.

Everything was lovely, except for the typical TINY Scandinavian bathroom! Good breakfast and location. Cozy.

Hotell Hilda was a delight.  We arrived late at night as our train was delayed but the door was open and a welcome note guided us to our room.  The hotel is in a lovely old yellow building and easy walking distance from the Slot and the old town.  The rooms are well equipped, clean and comfortable and there are sitting areas around like little living rooms.  The restaurant Kallskanken is part of the property serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with delicious, creative meals.  The staff, everyone, is kind, caring - make you feel like a part of the family.  Above all is Richard, (Martin was away but I'm sure he's equally nice); Richard was so kind and helpful, there for us in every way.  Hilda is off the In Track,
less expensive and glamorous  but what a wonderful place to stay!

We had a very pleasant stay in this small and different hotel. The rooms are situated in two buildings, and ours was in a charming wooden house with historical flair and even an old tiled stove. The reception is in the charming little restaurant. And even though we almost were the only guests, they had made us a small breakfast buffet, with home made bread and really high quality products. We really felt at home in this simple but charming hotel.

Charming, small and different hotel

The 2 things I first judge a hotel on are the staff and the cleanliness. The staff is outstanding and the bathroom and bedroom immaculate.  Our rooms were up a steep flight of stairs and overlooking the street. They were noisy with the windows open and a bit stuffy if they were closed. That would be the only negatives regarding the hotel but wouldn’t stop me from returning.  Next time I’d ask for a room farther from the street.  Still, It was an easy walk from here to Kalmar Slott and the harbor.  Thank you Eva for making our visit so much fun!

Gracious and warm staff and clean!

We stayed only one night. The front desk was in the restaurant, and the staff were really friendly. Our room was small, but clean. The bed wasn’t that comfortable, but ok. No blow dryer in the room. The restaurant attached to the hotel is vegetarian, so not great for everyone. There is a pizza place across the street and a steak house half a block away. 

Quaint!

Like visiting relatives in the Old Country

Hotell Hilda is a budget hotel. As long as you understand that, I would rate it as good. It is quite clean.  The room is adequate. The shower is good. The breakfast is decent. My only objection to the hotel is that there was no one available to greet us or check us in mid afternoon on a Sunday. We simply were texted a code to enter our room. In fact, other than one waitress in the breakfast room, we had no contact with anyone from the hotel. If cost is most important for you, this place is a decent value.

We stayed in newly added rooms over the little restaurant. Very modern, clean and on the 2nd floor. Staff was very welcoming. Although the free parking space was too small for our rental vehicle (car was brand new and we wanted to avoid door dings) staff advised that street parking was free from 5:00pm to 9:00am and that their cooks routinely parked there during restricted daytime hours without being ticketed. We chanced it and happily were not ticketed either! Very short walk to Kalmar Castle & area restaurants. Lovely city, wish we could have stayed longer! Staff also gave helpful advice regarding upcoming stay in Stockholm.

Kalmar stay

We found Hotell Hilda to be the best accommodations of our 21 day driving adventure through Scandinavia. Hotell Hilda is a charming old place within easy walking distance to the "Gamla Stan" (old city) district of Kalmar. The castle, Kalmar Slott, is also an easy walk from Hilda. The service and breakfast buffet were both excellent. The selection of gluten free and lactose free items was very nice too as my wife has celiacs and it made it easy for her. 
Johan, the restaurant manager, which is attached to the hotel and is excellent, was very personable and helpful. We found the owner, Richard and his wife, Hilda, (the hotel's namesake) to be be equally warm and welcoming. 
The place is not a 5-star resort if that's what you're looking for, but it is a charming old jewel, family owned and clean, warm and friendly. Our room, #1, was fairly spacious with a nice sitting area and many widows that you could open in the evening for a nice breeze. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Hotell Hilda!

Wonderful time at this gem in Kalmar!

We stayed one night in a standard room at Hildas. The room was cozy but still modern. Each room seemed to be differently themed. 

The staff was super friendly and relaxed. Breakfast was lighter than you're used to in sweden. But still good and sensible in a smaller hotel. 

The room was a bit small and was also a bit warm. Something was a bit off with the ventilation.
