The Tropi Turtle Guesthouse left us inspired. We had fun and meaningful conversations with the owner Sidney. His goal is to save the Sinharaja rainforest where he grew up. So with every stay you support this cause. 
The location is great, because you easily get to multiple surf locations or take the break right in front if the house.  
We really enjoyed having breakfast on the waterside underneath the palm trees. For dinner numerous restaurants are within walking distance. 

Since volunteers regularly support Sidney and always some long term surfers stay around you will also have some welcoming warmhearted folks being there for you and make it feel like a little family.

We would recommend to get a room in the back house, because its quieter and you hang out in the beautiful garden. You will even find some medicinal plants. 

Feels like family

I spent two weeks in this guest house owned by Sydney and with the help of her volunteers. It's a beautiful location, directly overlooking the sea and overlooking the turtles. Sydney is really lovely, with good advice and hospitality. Very good price-to-quality ratio. The only problem was the wifi that didn't work well, but it's a detail when you look at the framework of this guest house. Thank you Sydney, I will be back!

Exceptional

So to start off positively, the location is great to see turtles right in front of the door and snorkel with them. I also had the opportunity to use the private beach from the neighboring hotel. I stayed in the hostel for two nights, and due to the great reviews, I was actually hoping for some tips and to-do's from the owner. But these I didn't get to during the three days. Instead, there were two volunteers who arrived just a few days ago and unfortunately didn't even organize a tuk-tuk on the way out.

Good location very dirty

Amazing Hostel. It feld like Home to us. The host is the sweetest soul on earth and also is his dog. He was so friendly and accommodating. If you needed something, he just jumped on his scooter and get it for you. If you just ask he would even borrowed you diving gears or his own surfboard. The location is also really nice and you can watch turtles right in front of the house. We loved it so much we Even drove the whole way back from Kandy to his place.  book it !!!

Home Sweet Home.

Located with a beautiful view of the ocean. The staff are warm and catering to your needs. More like a home, than a hostel. Taking a break to swim with  the amazing giant turtles after sitting on the porch or at the table at the beach makes this hostel a paradise for writers... at least fir me when I need to stretch and recharge my creativity. It’s quiet in the off-season and usually full in season. A pure delight!

A writer’s retreat with a swim

Great Staff. The girls were very relaxed, laid back and helpful, also they accommodate me without problem for one extra day even though I told them quite late about it.
The beaches near the hotel like Polhena and the one to the right if you leave the gate are 100 times better than Matara Beach (which is also dangerous due to many suspicious individuals - my camera got stolen there).
On the other hand, the house is quite run down, especially the roof, there are huge holes, that I do not know how it works during the rain time. There is garbage everywhere, while searching for working locker I opened some drawers and I've found trash and beer bottles in all of them. As much as renovation is a bigger undertaking, the cleanses is something easier to handle.

Nice and affordable but a little bit run-down place

Very well received we had a large room and private bathroom lacks some cleanliness common kitchen it's great we made all our meals and little dej facing the beach with the big turtles or can hardly this swim but went a little to the right there's almost no one

That's great.

Tropi turtle guest house has quite corners and at the same time nice shared space to meet people. Sydney is a lovely host and gives you the opportunity if many activities and tips. The guesthouse is also connected to an eco project to protect the sinjharana rain forest !
We felt home there and stayed a little bit more but actually would have love to spend an other week there !!!

A peacefull little paradise

Very dirty, handling done in front of us is going fast with a dirty t-shirt to clean the mattress. Hole-roofed mosquito nets and full of dead insects falling on us. Bed sheets on the common living room couch of dreadful cleanliness, visibly never changed. Dog food in the hallway and the same floor. Garden with 1 transept, no view. When we arrived only 4 beds while we had reserved for 6. In the end, two young girls were moved to another room to give us space.

What a disaster!

I was happy to spend one week in TropiTurtle. Location is amazing (5 mins from the beach). I loved the ocean view from the second floor. That's a cool place to chill. There are lots of things to do in the area such as surfing, snorkeling.
